Rangers SS&W Explores Deep Portage!

The 4-H Rangers Shooting Sports & Wildlife Club had an exciting day of outdoor learning at Deep Portage Learning Center!

Youth practiced their canoeing skills on the water before enjoying lunch and holding their club meeting outdoors. The afternoon brought an introduction to orienteering, where they learned to use a compass and map, track their pace, and navigate using True North.

It was a great day of hands-on learning, teamwork, and outdoor adventure! 🌿

Looking for a fun way to wrap up the summer? Youth in grades K-5 are invited to join us in the 4-H building at the fairgrounds on Friday, August 14th from 9:30-11:30 for morning full of games, educational activities, snacks, and more centered around Minnesota's ecosystems! It's a great opportunity for youth to build confidence, develop social skills, and make new friends in a welcoming and supportive environment. Congratulations to all of our Cass County 4-H dog project members! 🐕🐾
Our State Dog qualifying show was held at the fairgrounds this past Saturday, August 8th. Dog project members were able to show off the skills they have been improving on in the last year with their canine companions through the agility, rally, obedience, and showmanship classes. Please join us by putting your paws together for these youth! 👏

Youth Spotlight: Connor Rowell

Congratulations to Connor Rowell, who earned Grand Champion honors at the Cass County Fair with a project that showcased both creativity and innovation.

Already familiar with the strategy of chess and recently introduced to the dice game Farkle by his great grandmother, Connor wondered what would happen if he combined the two. The result was an original game that blended elements of both, and he didn't stop there. Connor designed and built the game himself, bringing his idea from concept to reality.

When Connor learned that his project had been named Grand Champion, the first person he wanted to tell was his great grandmother. Although they live miles apart, they regularly stay connected by playing games together over FaceTime whenever their schedules allow. Sharing the exciting news with the person who inspired the project made the accomplishment even more meaningful.

Congratulations, Connor, on your creativity, craftsmanship, and well-deserved Grand Champion recognition!

Cass County 4-H was recently featured on PBS highlighting the Cass County Fair!

Starting around the 1:16 mark, 4-H members Kaelyn and Ellie share their experiences and what 4-H means to them. Kaelyn talks about her goat project and the skills she has gained through caring for and exhibiting her animals. Ellie shares how 4-H encourages youth to explore projects that match their interests and passions.

We are incredibly proud of Kaelyn and Ellie for representing Cass County 4-H and sharing their stories with our community. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and experiences demonstrate the many opportunities 4-H provides for young people to learn, grow, and discover new passions.
