Families on the Rosebud Reservation did not build the oil fields, manufacturing facilities or other large industrial operations driving regional electricity demand. But they are still being asked to pay more.

Cherry-Todd’s residential rates have increased by nearly 11% in less than two years. To understand why, we followed Rosebud’s electricity upstream—and found a regional power system carrying billions of dollars in debt and preparing to spend billions more on new power plants and transmission infrastructure.

Red Cloud Renewable may be based on the Pine Ridge Reservation, but the people of Rosebud are our Sicangu Lakota relatives to the east. What affects their homes, elders and children matters to us.

YOUR FUTURE IN SOLAR COULD START HERE.

Red Cloud Renewable is now recruiting for our Spring 2027 solar training programs!

Selected students will begin flexible online coursework now and work through the fall and winter of 2026, continuing into 2027. They will then come to South Dakota for intensive, hands-on solar installation training in the spring.

Participants will receive:

⚡ Industry-recognized solar training and certificates
⚡ OSHA 10 certification
⚡ CPR and First Aid certification
⚡ Hands-on solar installation experience
⚡ Practical skills to enter the solar industry with confidence

Two programs are available:

PRE-ARP is our co-ed solar pre-apprenticeship program for people interested in beginning a career in the skilled trades.

BRIDGE is our women-focused solar training program, created to help women build skills, confidence and connections in an industry where they remain underrepresented.

These programs are offered at no cost to selected Native American students from any tribe. No previous solar experience is required—just the determination to learn, work hard and build a brighter future.

This is an incredible opportunity in Indian Country to gain the training, certifications and hands-on experience needed to begin a career as a solar installer.
