The new high school club ended the first year with an amazing field trip to Cape May, New Jersey yesterday! Our first stop was the NASW Aviation Museum where we had an exciting opportunity to connect classroom learning with the innovation, engineering, and history behind aviation technology. After that was the Science Education at Sea experience! Students got to participate in hands-on marine science investigations while exploring ocean ecosystems. There are so many people to thank for this - Allison from the NASW Aviation museum for setting up our visit, Bob for an excellent tour there, Erin from the SEAS program for organizing our boat trip and her incredible crew and educational staff from the Wetlands Institute for teaching us and giving us a fun and safe journey, the Crimson Tide Foundation for funding the trip, and Mr. Borden for chaperoning and driving.

Congratulations to all the Tide-Tek students that competed at the PA Media & Design State Competition today at Elizabethtown College! In the high school competition, Bree and Violet took 2nd place in the 3D Design category. In the middle school competition, Sheena, Kaindra, and Lillian took 1st place in the 3D Design category, and Kaden took 2nd place in the Programming category. These are such amazing accomplishments to achieve at the state level!!! Our other teams that also worked hard to create superb projects that won 1st place at the regional competition to qualify for states in April were Leanna for Graphic Design (HS), Isha for Graphic Design (MS), Chase, Nhevin, and Adam for Digital Movie (HS), Colton for Digital Movie (MS), and Aubry, Zoey, and Breanna for Animation (MS). All of our middle school teams also came together to take first place in the highly competitive Goose Chase Scavenger Hunt!! Thank you to everyone that ran this event for the students. Thank you to Riley and Liam for assisting their peers with setup and cheering them on. Also, thank you to all the family members that supported these students by helping with projects and attending the events. You are all an integral part of all this, and it could not have been done without you!

Our What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Team had such a great time today at the “Best of PA” competition in Harrisburg! They were honored as one of the top teams in the entire state of Pennsylvania! Besides attending a really fun awards event at the Whitaker Center, the students also got to take a tour of the Capitol Building with Representative Tim Twardzik and Joshua Paul from Senator Argall’s office. Thank you to everyone that helps run this incredible competition and everyone that made this a special day for the students! Also, thank you so much to the families that followed the team to Harrisburg today and that supported them through this entire journey from start to finish!

Tide-Tek had a great first mountain bike adventure with the Outride program yesterday! The club took a trip to Swatara State Park and rode from the Swopes Valley Trailhead to the Sand Siding Trailhead. We made stops along the way at the Suedeberg Fossil Site, Bordner’s Cabin and Acrigg’s Falls. This trip would not have been possible without the help of many amazing people. Thank you to Mr. Hoak and Ms. Zerbe for bringing the Outride program to Pottsville Area School District and all the work they put into making this happen. Thank you to Mr. Tenaglia for coming along to ride with us and for all the support he gives the club. Thank you to club advisors Mr. Davis and Mr. Jeff Hughes for driving the vans and your continued support for Tide-Tek. Thank you to all the students that helped with planning the trip, maintaining the bikes, building the trailers, loading and unloading the trailers, packing supplies, and assisting peers. Thank you as well to our Tide-Tek families and school administrators for being open to new experiences for the students and providing all the support you always do. It was an awesome time and we are already looking forward to another ride in the Fall!
