We are holding a membership enrollment meeting next Tuesday (9/21/21) at 4:00pm in Woodard Hall room 257 along with a virtual option for those who can't make it in-person. Come learn about the team, help form plans for activities this fall, and meet other folks on campus that like to fish.

We're enjoying a mild winter in Arkansas this year and the bass are biting, but you do still have to adjust to their winter patterns.

Visit your nearest deep, clear reservoir and try small finesse soft plastics on a drop shot, ned rig, or shaky head near bluffs or submerged points, humps, or creek/river bends in 15-35 feet of water.

If you get the opportunity to fish on a warming trend or just before a storm system comes through, you can get away with crankbaits and umbrella rigs along bluff banks or over the submerged cover mentioned above and have one of the best days of your entire year!

We caught this fish and several others on a 1/4 oz Owner shaky head and a green pumpkin finesse worm on 8 lb Hiseas 100% Fluorocarbon on a 25 ft deep rock pile this weekend in windy post-frontal conditions. The fishing community lost a legend today. Jerry McKinnis is a face and voice that everyone in the competitive fishing community recognizes from his work with FLW and Bassmaster all the way back to the pioneer days of televised fishing tournaments. It always seemed like a big deal if Jerry was on commentary and broadcasts just won't feel the same without his enthusiasm and talent for storytelling. Farewell Jerry, thank you for giving so much of yourself to the sport we love!

We got some more training time with new Fishing Team members on the Arkansas River at Pine Bluff last week! Sophomore Agriculture major, Brent Thomas, and Freshman Criminal Justice major Seth Watson landed a limit of black bass in an afternoon session with the Coach, featuring some healthy spotted bass, a very nice largemouth bass and some not so impressive white bass mixed in.

The current team is young but the technical skills are already in good shape with room to grow. UAPB appears ready to enter its first event of the 2019-2020 school year in the Arkansas Collegiate Series Qualifier this weekend on Lake Millwood!
