The American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center at AHEC-UAMS-Pine Bluff serves healthcare providers as well as people from the community by providing training in basic and advanced life support.
As some of you may already know, our training center did not receive funding this year. Our grant proposal was to provide FREE training to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, daycares, churches - basically the entire community. It is a crushing reality that they could deny FREE training to help save lives. This is catastrophic to our instructors, community and funding source which is SEAMIC (Southeast Arkansas Medical Information Center). The SEAMIC foundation was established in 1986 and its mission is to provide training in high-quality CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP and other advanced life support training. I have been with this wonderful organization for 14 years and have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this program. With recent events regarding Buffalo Bills player, Damar Hamlin, we see the importance in this high-profile cardiac emergency and the ongoing need to strengthen the community response in the chain of survival. SEAMIC has served this mission for decades and I feel certain everyone would like to see this program continue and grow. I would like to ask for your help in making sure that happens. Do you know of anyone that could donate to our foundation? Anything would help and I’m asking you to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!! As AHA CPR Instructors, we have a duty to use our expertise to ensure we teach these principles and advocate for widespread CPR training in our communities. Together, we will continue to make cardiac arrest a more survivable event into the future.
Sincerely,
Cindy Adams
SEAMIC Director
