🌟 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Welcome Mr. Ramirez! 🌟

Please join us in giving a warm Pilot Rock welcome to our new 4th grade teacher, Matthew Ramirez!

While Matthew might be a familiar face to many, having served as a dedicated paraprofessional here in Pilot Rock and Pendleton over the last three years, he is stepping into an exciting new role in the classroom!

Here’s a little bit more about Mr. Ramirez:
📍 Hometown: Clovis, CA

🧩 Why Teaching? "I love puzzles, and teaching is the ultimate puzzle. You have 20 kids who all need to learn the same thing, but also have 20 different styles of learning. The moment that you figure out what makes a student's learning click can't be beat."

💙 Why Pilot Rock? "As soon as I started as a paraprofessional, I knew Pilot Rock was the place for me. The community and staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful... Everyone knows everyone and is willing to step in when people need help."

✨ Fun Facts & Hobbies: • Disney Magic: Before moving to Oregon, Matthew worked at Disneyland for 3 years, which is actually where he met his wife, a Pendleton native who first brought him to visit the area!

Weekend Fun: When he’s not in the classroom, you can find him walking his dog, playing board games, reading, painting at The Studio in Pendleton, or making a weekend Costco run.

Please join us in giving Mr. Ramirez a warm Pilot Rock! 💙💛

🍎 Staff Spotlight: Welcome Mrs. Kopf! 🍎

We are so excited to introduce one of our wonderful educators to the Pilot Rock community!

Meet Mrs. Kopf
Role: 5th Grade Teacher (Entering her 3rd year of teaching!)
Hometown: Meridian, Idaho

Get to Know Mrs. Kopf:

Why Teaching? For Mrs. Kopf, nothing beats the "ah-ha!" moment a student has when a concept clicks. She considers it a true pleasure to help her students achieve that feeling every single day in her classroom.

Why Pilot Rock? Community means everything to Mrs. Kopf. After living in Pilot Rock with her family for two years, she knew that bringing her teaching career here was the absolute right move.
Favorite Part of PRSD: "Working for PRSD has been a dream come true already. I appreciate the strong admin support, and knowing where to go and who to turn to when I need support!"

Outside the Classroom: When she’s not in the classroom, you can find Mrs. Kopf reading, crafting, or enjoying sports. She loves both playing and watching various sports, but softball holds an extra special place in her heart! 🥎✨

Please join us in giving Mrs. Kopf a warm Pilot Rock! 💙💛

🌟 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Meet Mr. Eric Oja! 🌟

We are excited to welcome Mr. Oja to Pilot Rock Jr/Sr High School, where he is teaching Advanced Math and Physics! 📐🍎

Mr. Oja grew up in Pendleton and McMinnville, bringing a wealth of local experience with him after previously teaching in both communities.

Why teaching? For Mr. Oja, it’s all about impact: "I think it's the most important of professions. As a teacher I can reach students from diverse backgrounds and help empower them to lead happy and productive lives."

Though retired from Pendleton, Mr. Oja chose to return to the classroom specifically for Pilot Rock. He wanted small classes within a close-knit, supportive community, and he’s loving it so far! His favorite part about Pilot Rock? The awesome students and staff.

Fun Facts & Hobbies:

🎒 Weekend Vibes: Hiking, backpacking, working out, reading, watching movies, listening to music, and spending quality time with friends and family.

🎸 Superfan Alert: Mr. Oja is heading to his 50th Rush concert this October!

We are so glad to have Mr. Oja as part of our Rocket family!
