Family and Consumer Sciences students at Shelby Valley High School enjoyed learning to make Irish Bread and homemade butter with Pike County Cooperative Extension 4-H program. Several students had fun trying the butter milk from the butter they made and compared it to actual buttermilk. They demonstrated a variety skills including teamwork and had fun learning together. Thanks to Pike County 4-H for an outstanding opportunity.

Mrs.Honaker’s Family and Consumer Science Financial Literacy classes at SVHS enjoyed a visit from UK Cooperative Extension 4-H program . They participated in a team budgeting activity and analyzed common expenses you encounter when living independently. They predicted cost and then looked for actual average amounts to compare. Students did an excellent job with critical thinking and problem solving!

Students in the Marketing Applications class at Pike County Central High School got some real-world marketing experience!

Students designed original shirts for our school store, then conducted multiple rounds of real market research with PCCHS students to see which designs our customers actually preferred. The results narrowed the designs to the top three, and our administration made the final selection.

Congratulations to Jasmine Parsons, whose design was chosen as the winner! 🎉 Her shirt is officially headed to the school store!

From product design → market research → a real product. That’s CTE in action!

The 2026–27 Work-Based Learning Co-Op students are off to an AMAZING start! 🎉

Our students kicked off their work experience journey with our incredible partner, Rural Up, by participating in a professional learning day designed to prepare them for success as they begin their work experiences next week!

The excitement and enthusiasm from our students were contagious! They were eager to learn, participate, and take the next step toward building their future. We are so proud of the students representing East Ridge High School, Phelps High School, Pike Central High School, and Shelby Valley High School! 💚

We can’t wait to see all they accomplish this year and hear about the experiences, skills, and opportunities they gain through Co-Op!

A huge THANK YOU to Shelby Valley High School for hosting us and helping make this day such a success!

Here’s to a great year of LEARNING, LEADING, and INSPIRING! 💚
