Before the "after," there's always a "before." 💛

Every mom who loves GCE now had a season before it that wasn't working. This is Andrea, and I asked her the honest question we usually skip: what was actually going on before you went looking for something different? Her answer's in the video.

"Isn't that just screen time?" 📱

I asked the exact same thing before we started. We're a screen-cautious house on purpose, and the idea of "online school" made me picture my kid slumped over a tablet, eyes glazed, autoplay doing its thing.

So let me tell you the difference I actually see. There's consuming a screen — passive, endless, alone — and there's showing up to a room through one. GCE is the second kind. It's a live class. A real mentor who knows my kid's name. Real classmates. Real discussion happening in real time. You cannot zone out when someone is about to ask what you think and then ask you to defend it.

Let's bust the one that kept ME on the fence the longest. 🙋‍♀️

"Online homeschool classes can't be rigorous. It's just kids zoning out in front of a screen."

I believed that. Truly. Then I sat in on a live GCE class and watched a mentor look a 13-year-old in the eye and say, "Okay — but defend that. Why?" And the kid had to actually think, out loud, in front of classmates who'd read the same chapter.
