Meeting with the South Dakota Student Federation, Regents Executive Director Paul Beran talked about student-led initiatives. Students discussed topics ranging from higher education budgets to civic engagement and efforts to increase voting on campuses. Today's federation meeting was chaired by Ryan Sailors, a South Dakota State University student.

SHED is the largest student lobbying event in the State of South Dakota, taking place annually. We had 60 student senators from South Dakota's six regental universities convene in Pierre for this two-day event on January 24 and 25, 2016. We learned about the legislative process, represented students in the legislature and made our voices heard about student issues, heard from state political leaders, and more.

The Federation and their Student Associations have a jam packed two days coming up! Schools are on their way to Pierre and will be at the Capitol lobbying for bills that effect students across the state.

This week at the Board of Regents meeting the Federation was asked to discuss legislation that will affect students' confidential reporting of sexual assaults. Below is the link to the proposal. Should students have access to report their assault without having to report it to the authorities? WHAT DO YOU THINK?!

Student Senates from universities and colleges across the state are making their way to Northern State University in Aberdeen today for the Student Federation meeting and the Board of Regents meeting tomorrow. With many topics to discuss, we are looking forward to a productive meeting!

At our meeting last night at Dakota State University, the new Executive members, and the Board of Directors were sworn in. With big goals, we are excited to see what the Federation will accomplish this year!

Last night at our Student Federation meeting in Vermillion we elected our new Executive Director, Chance Costello. Chance is a senior at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology out in Rapid City. We look forward to all he and the new executive board will do for the students of South Dakota.

Tonight the Federation will be meeting at 7pm CST in Vermillion, SD. At this meeting we will be electing the next executive director and approving the budget. We welcome all students to attend!

Lawmakers voted 48 to 20 to dismiss the proposal
