As I reflect back on 2022, I can’t help but thank God for all He has done and continues to do for me. I am beyond thankful for the places I have traveled, wildlife I have encountered, knowledge I have built, research I have conducted, and relationships I have created. Hard days come and struggles arise, but I am in love with the life God has granted me to live.

One phrase that someone told me has stuck with me through the year and it is simple but holds value: “I am better than I deserve.” This phrase feels so true to me. Instead of the constant pain and suffering we deserve, we receive endless love, peace, joy, comfort, and goodness thanks to Our Savior who paid the price for each of us.

Thinking ahead to the new year, I can’t help but be excited to keep building this life God has given me. I am anxious to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I am eager to tackle my goals head first. I am able to look ahead with a calm heart and mind because I know God has my life in His hands.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

For me, it will always be the endless hunting and fishing adventures I’ve shared with my parents throughout my life. My whole life, I’ve grown up with parents who love the outdoors. They shared their hobbies and passion with me from the moment I could walk! These adventures are what lead me to my passion and the career I love. I am so thankful for my parents who took the time to instill their love for hunting and fishing in my heart. As I got older, I realized I loved being out in nature watching wildlife. I soon realized I wanted to protect the land and our wildlife so myself, others, and generations to come can enjoy them, bringing me to where I am today! I owe my love and passion for wildlife conservation to my parents.

hey everyone👋🏼

I wanted to start this page off by introducing myself and sharing a little bit about me! My name is Kate Asmus. I’m a small town farm-girl from Pierce, NE, with a love for wildlife and anything outdoors. My family has been in the farm and ranch industry ever since I’ve been born and it’s an important part of my life. My all time dream is to find that perfect job that integrates ranching and wildlife management! I know many of you are already following my new account on Instagram, but I wanted to create a page on Facebook as well to reach a wider audience.

I have two degrees and am currently in the pursuit of another. Just can’t learn enough!!
🎓Associate of Science from Northeast Community College
🎓Bachelor of Science from University of Nebraska-Lincoln
🎓Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Biology University of Nebraska at Kearney

I’ve worked various field technician positions for the past 5 years. I banded tropical birds in Ecuador for a month, banded morning doves in North Dakota, worked on the Tern and Plover Conservation Partnership in Nebraska, and studied Pinyon Jay ecology and Gray Vireo nest survival in New Mexico. I’ll share more on each of these in future posts!

Being out in the field studying wildlife is obviously the best part of my career, but as wildlife researcher’s, if we can’t communicate what we learn to other researchers and the public, all our work is for nothing. I’m starting this page specifically for that reason: to share my research with my friends, family, and hopefully as it expands the general public!
