Our first round of WMS Excellence League winners were celebrated in style with a well-deserved pancake breakfast! 🎉🥞

⭐ 7th Grade: Mrs. Pepper’s EYE Time
⭐ 8th Grade: Mrs. Wise’s EYE Time

Our EYE Time classes compete throughout the year to earn points by demonstrating excellence, responsibility, and commitment to learning, including:

📚 Strong i-Ready time on task
✅ High i-Ready pass rates
💯 A low number of zeros
🚫 No CAT-5 entries

Marvelous Mondays are off to an AMAZING start at Wren Middle School!
Our first Club Time was a huge success, and we loved seeing our Hurricanes learning, laughing, creating, competing, and trying something new! 💙

With 50+ clubs hosted by our incredible WMS staff, students have so many opportunities to explore their interests and discover new passions each Monday.

Just a few of the clubs our students can choose from:

Welcome back, Hurricanes! 🌴💛💙

Day 1 (for teachers) is officially in the books, and in true Wren Middle fashion, we kicked off the year with a welcome breakfast, time to reconnect, and Mrs. Alford’s annual back-to-school “sermon.” 😉

This year’s challenge:

FIND YOUR PURPOSE. BE THE DIFFERENCE.

Mrs. Alford challenged us to think about our purpose in everything we do: our purpose for our students, our role and contribution to our teams, and the difference each of us makes in the larger vision of Wren Middle School.

Because when we know our purpose, even the smallest things we do each day can make a BIG difference.

We’re ready for another year of learning, growing, connecting, and making Wren the BEST it can be.

✨ Meet Our Newest Hurricane! ✨

Please welcome Michael Shelton, our new 6th Grade Math/ELA teacher!

Originally from Illinois, Michael is a Clemson University graduate and brings 4 years of experience from Wren Elementary. Inspired by his parents—both career educators—Michael developed a passion for teaching and making a positive impact on students’ lives. He loves creating fun, memorable learning experiences and empowering students to take ownership of their education. Michael is excited to continue building strong relationships within the Wren community, both in the classroom and beyond.

Fun facts: He loves cooking and trying new recipes 🍳 and has an impressive shoe collection!

His teaching motto:
“Be curious, not judgmental.”

We are so glad to have him at Wren Middle School! 💙

✨ Meet Our Newest Hurricane! ✨

Help us welcome Ms. Caroline Wrenn, our new 8th Grade Science teacher!

Caroline is from Kershaw, SC and earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Middle Level Education from Clemson University. Inspired by her mom, who is also a teacher, Caroline knew early on that she wanted to make a difference in students’ lives. She loves building strong relationships with students and watching them grow both academically and personally. Caroline is excited to expand her connections across the school community and continue making an impact at Wren.

Fun fact: She played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school and loves anything sports-related! 🏀

Her teaching philosophy:
“Choose joy!”

✨ Meet Our Newest Hurricane! ✨

We are excited to welcome Liza Merritt to our 6th Grade Resource/Inclusion team!

Originally from Spartanburg, SC, Liza is a Clemson University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and dual certification in multi-categorical special education (K–12) and general education (2–6). She brings 2 years of experience from Powdersville Middle School.

Liza was inspired to teach by impactful educators in her own life who encouraged her to follow this path—and she now strives to be that same champion for her students. She loves making learning fun, celebrating student growth, and helping students feel proud of their progress.

She’s especially excited to join the WMS family, collaborate with colleagues, and build meaningful relationships with students and staff.

Fun facts: Mrs. Merritt just got married in June 🎉, loves machine embroidery, traveling (including a month studying education in Italy!), and cheering on the Clemson Tigers!

Her teaching philosophy centers on mutual respect and connection:
