Grimm Brothers' tales from and our grant took on twisted endings and different POVs in these tales. After practicing fluent reading, pace, and characterization, 4th grade LEAP students took the show on the (fairy tale) road to the 1st and 2nd grade halls and entertained 200+ students. They modeled great reading skills some even taught mini lessons comparing and contrasting the tales.

From examining primary sources & the evolution of language with the early pleasure wheels of the 1600s to George Ferris' wheel at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago to the Viennese Giant Ferris to all the modern day marvels - we learned all things Ferris Wheels in LEAP. For the final project, students were challenged to build ferris wheels in class. Thankful to Mary Tran with OSU's DoD STEM PD and for inspiring this lesson.

Thank you to Lyric Theatre for coming out and sharing your wonderfully entertaining performance of Cinderella with our students. Such a fun and engaging way to teach all the story elements.

Thanks to our grant, we were able to see the castle in Poole, Germany that inspired the Grimm Brothers' tale. It made for a great discussion in LEAP about why Disney chose the iconic castle in Neuschwanstein over the one in Poole for the movie.

This week, as we are studying the Baroque period and focusing on Antonio Vivaldi, we are reading this book called, I Vivaldi. He was born in Venice and spent a good portion of his life there. So many illustrations in this book are of places that we saw in Venice. It’s been fun showing the kids where I stood in relation to the picture in real life. Showing therm photos and videos of our time there. It’s made for some great conversations and questions and making our unit so much more relevant through their eyes. I’m so thankful for the opportunity that we had. Every day, I see new ways to form connections that I hadn’t thought about prior to our Fellowship. Thank you

Well, it's almost time to get back to school and we are ready! I've already finished my hallway bulletin board with the help of my daughter. Our school theme this year is Destinations - We're Going Places! How perfect is that? I've also been working on recreating foods I experienced to share with my family and hopefully students (I'm going to try - these ones need to be warm!). Here is my bulletin board sharing my travels and my recent attempt at stroopwafels which were from Amsterdam. Here's a link to the recipe and video that really helped. He was known as The Black Mozart. He was an amazing musician and broke so many barriers. He was a close friend of Marie Antoinette’s. The movie is now streaming on Hulu check it out. We were fortunate to visit the church where he was buried in Paris and the Palace of Versailles where he performed. Check it out!
