Kiwanis Dollar Wars for Sahuaro Elementary
September 21st-October 6th

Kiwanis is hosting a walk-a-thon on October 7th for a team of our dedicated staff to walk in support of our students and school!

In support of our Kiwanis Walk-a-Thon Team, we are collecting cash donations through October 6th. Each class is collecting paper money only—no coins please! Please consider donating $1, $5, $10 or even more. The class who raises the most money will win a pizza party!

80% of the funds collected will come back to the school to fund various school events and activities.

20% of the funds collected will go to Kiwanis, an AMAZING charity organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time!

**Please Note: This charity fundraiser is different from the current PTA fundraiser that is currently in progress.**

After-School Academy (ASA) had a successful kickoff today! Thank you to Ms. Harding, our awesome coordinator for her time and dedication to getting program up and running!!

Thank you also to our 2 amazing ASA teachers, Ms. Desiderio & Mr. Booth for committing to teach ASA this semester. We were so excited to also welcome 8 interns from Grand Canyon University to work with students!!

Our PTA Sahuaro Donation Drive Fundraiser program got off to an amazing start today with an inspiring kick-off!

The Sahuaro Community has come together to donate prizes for the fundraiser so that all funds raised will go to support Sahuaro students and staff! That’s right, 100% of donations raised will go to the school!!!

Our next step is to ask each of you to act TONIGHT by clicking the link below. It will take you to our school’s fundraiser website where you can find your child’s Personal Donation page and invite your friends and family to join our efforts to help our school!

Congratulations to 6th Grade Teacher, Ms. Taylor Vall, who was awarded $500 today from APS Supply my Classroom!!

Today Ms. White's Kindergarten class had our School Social Worker, Ms. Paige in to do "Zones of Regulation". The students were able to identify the 4 colors, what emotions go with each color and how to identify emotions in other people. One of our friends ended up in the Blue zone during class and when Ms. Paige asked what does our friend need to get back in the Green zone they all yelled a hug. Group hug it was.

Many of our classes took time today to remember the tragedy that took place 22 years ago on 9/11/2001. Pictured below are some of our AWESOME Kindergarteners who celebrated Patriot Day by coloring Thank You Letters to Fire Fighters!

This past week, Sahuaro's Literacy Learning Lab began their first learning cycle. 🌵

Our Academic Intervention Specialists, Mrs. Rodgers and Mrs. Wan, along side with Ms. Sunitha, Mrs. Martinez, and Ms. Palmeri, are so delighted to work with our K-6th grade students. In the Learning Lab we support reading through phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, phonics, sight words, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension at all levels. We are all looking forward to so much growth this 23-24 school year! 💕

OP•TI•MIS•TIC~Last Friday our students worked together with their Eagle Buddies to learn about Optimism. Our students and staff are optimistic about this school year! Fly High Eagles!

LOVE grows at Sahuaro! We are excited that our day Custodian, Ms. Honeyrose has BEAT cancer with treatments, surgery and faith. She will get to ring the bell this week. Welcome back Ms. Honeyrose.

Congratulations to Sahuaro 5th Grader, Lia L., for earning a PERFECT score on the state assessment (AASA) from last April for both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math!! This is her 2nd year to reach this achievement, and we are so proud of her!

Thank you Chicken & Pickle for including Sahuaro in your "Our Hearts Are Local" Day! They donated $125 to our school, and sent 8 volunteers to help with various service projects around campus today, including gardening, bulletin boards, trash pickup, and inspirational chalk messages for students. We are grateful for our community partners!

Congratulations to Kristin Holbrook & Jennifer Mosher, GLC Teachers, who were both selected as winners of $500 each through the APS Supply My Class contest! APS selects 500 teachers each year to receive this reward, and we are so excited to celebrate with two of our own!

Congratulations to our August R.O.C.K.S. Stars of the month! We had a great time at breakfast with the principal. Way to be responsible, optimistic, caring, kind, and safe!

Kindergarten rainbow day! Our kindergarten students spent the first two weeks of school learning and practicing their colors. Today they were able to celebrate their hard work with a rainbow day. Great job Kindergarten!

Getting ready for a new school year is never an easy task, but it is made easier by the help from our AMAZING Community Partners!!! Thank you so much to Calvary PHX Church for sending nearly 100 volunteers on Saturday, July 22nd, a super hot Phoenix summer day, for a summer "Love Our Schools Day!"

Giving a belated 'Shout Out' to Brew Avenue Coffee for bringing their coffee cart for staff appreciation week last May! In coordination with Calvary PHX Church, Brew Avenue provided made-to-order coffee for our staff!

Our first Eagle Buddies meet up was on Friday! Older students paired up with younger students and participated in activities focused on responsibility and what it means to be responsible at school! Excellent job, Eagles!

Throwback to April when we welcomed volunteers from Discover Card to read to our students. Thanks to a grant from "First Book," all of our students received a new book to take home on the topic of financial literacy. First Book is also providing grant money to buy new books for our school library! Thank you First Book and Discover Card for giving back to the community! Discovery Card First Book

Students (almost 100) at the Gifted Learning Center communicated with a student who recently had surgery and was home recovering. There was so much love in that classroom! Thank you amazing teachers for arranging this opportunity. The GLC is truly a family.
