ASLS and University of Notre Dame D’Haiti Establish Mission-Based Partnership

The University of Notre Dame d’Haiti Law School (UNDH) and Arizona Summit have formed a unique partnership – creating a study abroad program, faculty exchange, and curriculum enhancements.

A study abroad model is being designed to provide students with the opportunity for course credit and service that meets pro bono requirements. Most law school programs are located in developed countries, especially Europe, and offer a combination of course work and sightseeing. The Summit / UNDH program is centered in the poorest county in the Western Hemisphere and will feature course work and service in the summer or during intersessions.

Summit President Donald Lively describes it “as an opportunity to test market the model's potential scalability for other underdeveloped countries – positioning us as a thought leading and forward thinking institution.”

Dean Shirley Mays will co-direct the program for Summit with Daphne LeBlanc, a lawyer admitted to practice in Haiti and France.

UNDH was founded in 1993 and has its main campus in Port-au-Prince, where it’s Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences; Law; and Economic, Social, and Political Science are located. Since its creation, the university has expanded to other parts of the country and has become a leading force for economic development and improving education and health care.
