In honor of National Gummy Worm Day, we dug up some sweet facts on this childhood (and adulthood) favorite! 🐛😋

1. German Candy Maker Hans Reigel came up with the gummy candy concept in 1922. He was also the founder and the confectionery company HARIBO.

2. In 1981, American candy manufacturer Trolli created the gummy worm. The worm shape gave kids something gross that was fun to wat while mildly shocking their parents.

3. Most gummy worms are a combination of 2-3 flavors, each with a different color. In production, beeswax is added to make the worms less sticky.

4. Gummy Worms have evolved in the past 30+ years to include new flavors like sour gummy worms with a sour dusting and vegans gummy worms that are made without gelatin.

5. Something that has remained a classic? The kid-friendly “worms and dirt” dessert that is still immensely popular
