CNC Operators / Machinist Technicians
CNC machinists work with computer numerical control (CNC) machines. They read sketches, blueprints, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD) files, and use code to input product design into a computer-guided machine. The CNC machine uses that code to turn, shape, grind, drill and mill materials, like metal and plastic, into parts as large as car frames to as small as tiny computer parts. Machinists manufacture a wide variety of tangible parts from raw materials like titanium prosthetic limbs for the medical industry to aeros**ce parts for winged and bladed aircraft jet engines!
What industries employ CNC machinists?
Just a few of many industries in manufacturing that employ CNC machinists are:
• Aeros**ce
• Aviation
• Automobile and Racing
• Medical and Dental
• Department of Defense
• Semiconductor
• Mining
• Agriculture
• Fi****ms and Munitions
How Long Is the CNC Machining l Program?
The CNC Machining l program is approximately 8months long. The weekly schedule is Monday through Thursday and consists of an 8am to 2:30pm class schedule.
Are there any Certifications available in the CNC Machining l program besides the Certificate of Competency?
Yes! Such as the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) level l certifications in Measurement Materials and Safety, Benchwork and Layout, Drill Press, Manual Milling, Manual Lathe, CNC Lathe Programming and Operations, CNC Mill Programming and Operations, and more!
What Is CNC Machining l Training Like?
Students who enter the Gateway Central City CNC Machining l training program can expect a blend of lectures, bookwork, demonstrations, online third-party interactive video platforms, and hands-on training. The hands- on training aspect makes up the majority of the CNC Machining l program. The program is 70% hands-on in the lab and 30% theory.
