Meet George Hunt, our dedicated welding instructor at The Refrigeration School. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, George has called Arizona home since he was 13. He teaches online welding theory classes during the week and runs our weekend Welding Specialist program.
George joined RSI in December 2023 and has been making a significant impact ever since. He is an RSI graduate himself, having been part of our very first welding class in 2018. With about 10 years of welding experience, George brings invaluable hands-on knowledge and passion to his teaching.
George's career journey is inspiring. From a truck driver to a welder, and now an instructor, he’s experienced the field firsthand. He’s worked in various sectors, including gate and fencing, art studios, and the mining industry. His dedication to welding and his students is truly commendable.
George decided to transition into teaching to honor his mentor, Eric Manson, and to give back to the next generation of welders. Watching his students progress from beginners to skilled welders is incredibly rewarding for him.
Outside of work, George enjoys creating metal art pieces, spending time with his wife Keisha and their two daughters, and fishing at the lake. His dedication to his family and craft is truly inspiring.

Faculty Spotlight: Don Charbonneau
Meet Don Charbonneau, a dedicated solar instructor at The Refrigeration School, hailing from Southbridge, Massachusetts. Don brings a wealth of experience to his role, having served 34 years in the United States Navy before transitioning to the field of education.
Don’s journey began when he joined the Navy straight out of high school in 1988. Despite not coming from a military background, his time in a Navy ROTC program during high school ignited his passion for service. Throughout his extensive Navy career, Don embarked on numerous deployments, experiencing firsthand the dynamic nature of military life, especially during active periods like the Gulf War and post-9/11 operations.
"After spending time in various locations," Don reflects, "I found myself drawn to Phoenix, Arizona, where I served as a recruiter. It was during this time that my interest in solar energy blossomed."
Don's transition to teaching was a natural progression fueled by his passion for solar energy and his extensive electrical background. After utilizing his GI Bill to attend HVAC school at RSI and graduating in 2023, Don found himself back at RSI, this time as an instructor. His decades of experience in the Navy, coupled with his newfound expertise in solar energy, positioned him as an invaluable asset to the school.
"Teaching," Don explains, "allows me to share my knowledge and inspire the next generation of solar technicians. It's a rewarding experience to see students' curiosity ignite as they delve into the world of solar energy."
Outside of work, Don enjoys staying active, whether it's working on projects around his new house or showcasing his skills on the pickleball court. Family holds a special place in Don's heart, especially his wife Sandra, who provided unwavering support throughout his military career.
For Don, teaching is not just a job; it's a continuation of his dedication to service, albeit in a different capacity. His advice to students reflects his ethos of commitment and hard work: “the more you invest in your education, the greater the rewards.”
Don Charbonneau's journey from the Navy to the classroom exemplifies the spirit of lifelong learning and the power of pursuing one's passions. As we celebrate Faculty Appreciation Month, we extend our gratitude to Don for his service and dedication to shaping the next generation of solar technicians at RSI.
