Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hispanic Heritage Month originally started with one week of commemoration when it was first introduced by Congressman George E. Brown in June 1968. With the civil rights movement, the need to recognize the contributions of the Latino community gained traction in the 1960s.

President Ronald Reagan later extended to a 30-day celebration, starting on September 15, and ending on October 15, to celebrate the influence of the primarily Spanish speaking Countries of America, such as Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras, and Ecuador. It was enacted into law via approval of Public Law 100-402 on August 17, 1988.

Here are some of our favorite ways for you to observe Hispanic Heritage Month ⬇️

💥Support your favorite Latino Owned Business!

There are many Local Restaurant’s, retailers, artists, and other small businesses that want your support. Take the family out to your favorite Authentic Restaurant.

💥Attend an event in your community celebrating Hispanic Heritage month.

In most places, there are events hosted by the consulates, art galleries, and collectives that you, your family and friends can enjoy.

💥Learn Spanish

Or one of the many other languages spoken in these countries, there are a bunch of languages and resources that you can choose from!

💥Read a Book

The history of many Latino-American Countries is very rich and super interesting, and there are also many Latino authors that cover every genre from history to horror. Visit your local bilingual library or public library to pick up a book.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Months from RSI!
