Phoenix College student Ashley Aguilera took part in a study abroad program this past summer, traveling to England, Scotland, and France.

“The trip impacted me greatly,” says Ashley. “After living in Europe for a month, I feel a great need to expand my knowledge of other cultural groups. I plan to travel to more countries throughout my educational journey, not as a vacation but as learning opportunities, to connect and serve. I’m still figuring out which career to pursue, as I want it to be something that matches my interests and allows me to serve people worldwide.”

The Greg M. Adams Study Abroad Fellowship is established to help Phoenix College students participate in Phoenix College and/or Maricopa Community College sanctioned study abroad opportunities: https://ow.ly/wbXj50Q9wP5

Rock your Mocs is today!

Rock Your Mocs promotes the visibility of Native people in contemporary society. It expresses their cultural pride and a reconnection with their roots.

Stephanie Madison (Instructional Services) is wearing her grandmother’s traditional Hopi moccasins. Her grandmother’s moccasins are one of her most cherished possessions. Her grandmother, Mary Webb, was a Phoenix College alumna and the matriarch of Stephanie’s family: "She made sure we knew our culture and how important it was to represent our Ohkay Owingeh/Hopi/Tewa tribes in all aspects of our lives,” Stephanie said

It’s Native American Heritage Month!

Melvin Pastores is President of PC's Native American Student Association (NASA) club. He led the group’s participation in the 39th annual Native American Connections Parade, handing out candy and club flyers to spectators. The club won 2nd place for their participation in the parade's school division. In his first college experience, Melvin was a student photographer and his involvement on campus helped him connect. "It was fun back then, and it's still fun today," he said. His presence on campus is making an impact. The club "is bringing our native people together" and encouraging members to be involved in the Indian community.

Diana says, "Being a part of Phoenix College's ACE program has been fundamental to my college success and in turn, helped prepare me to take on a career that I love and am passionate about! When I was in ACE, I took courses such as BIO 101, CRE 101, ENG 101 and ENG 102 and they all transferred as college credits when I officially enrolled into university. Additionally, I had professors that made me excited about what I was learning and they cared about my education. My ACE professors continue to support me to this day."

How often are we really able to slow down these days? How often do we give ourselves permission to take a few deep breaths and just sit and observe what is happening around us? These are some of the questions Art faculty Jay Hardin asked when he began his sabbatical in Fall 2021. What he discovered after a six-week online mindfulness class with Holly Cluff, a Koru-certified instructor from Tucson, is that mindfulness does wonders for the creative mind.

Mindful Arts: Taiko Drumming and Drawing is being offered on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in PC’s Band Room, M104. The $45 non-credit workshop is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. No experience in drumming or drawing is required.
