We’ve all been there—it’s a beautiful hot day, you give your little one a popsicle, and within exactly 45 seconds, it becomes a race against time as neon sticky juice runs straight down their arm and onto their clothes. Before you hand over the treat, slide a simple paper or silicone cupcake liner right up the stick. It creates a perfect, cheap little catch-basket for every single drip before it hits their tiny fingers. No sticky messes, no mid-treat meltdowns—just pure summer joy. Try it out this afternoon and let us know if it saved your sanity!

The Active Mind: Why Boredom is Your Child’s Best Tool - Robins Nest Child Care 05/25/2026

The Target Meltdown & The "Active Mind" 🛒🧠

We’ve all been there—half a cart left to go, and the Level 10 meltdown begins. Reaching for the phone is a modern lifesaver (and there is absolutely NO shame in that!).

But what happens when we have the chance to swap "passive consumption" for "active discovery"?

In our latest blog, Kelly McCready breaks down the science of your child’s brain and why a little bit of boredom is actually the "ignition switch" for their creativity. Discover how to build a simple, offline "Sensory Toolkit" for those tricky moments, and learn why we love the 5-Minute Rule! 👇

The Active Mind: Why Boredom is Your Child’s Best Tool - Robins Nest Child Care By Kelly McCready We’ve all been there. You’re in the middle of a Target, getting ready to check out with half a cart to go, when your little one suddenly "flips a switch." Out of nowhere, a Level 10 meltdown begins—just out of nowhere.

Children’s brains aren’t born with a self-calming button. When their world feels chaotic and their emotions are high, they don’t yet have the internal thermostat needed to reset themselves. They look directly to the trusted adults in their world for a cue. 🧠

This is Co-Regulation, and we like to think of it as the Human Thermostat. By remaining calm, centered, and emotionally available, our teachers act as an emotional anchor for your child in the middle of their storm. They are quite literally borrowing our calm until they are developmentally ready to build their own. ❤️

This week is going to be a fun-filled week celebrating Week of the Young Child. Week of the Young Child is all about celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. Each day this week will have a themed day to celebrate all that we learn. Today is Music Monday, tomorrow is Tasty Tuesday, followed by Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and then Family Friday. For Family Friday, parents, please bring in a picture of your child's family that they can share with their class. You can print it and bring it in, post one in the comments here, or send one to our email at [email protected]

The Heritage of the High-Five ✋✨

Have you ever wondered why a simple greeting matters so much? In developmental psychology, we talk about a "Secure Base." It’s that deep-seated feeling a child has when they know their environment is consistent, predictable, and full of people who truly see them.

When we greet your little one with the same high-five our founders used 40 years ago, we aren't just being silly—we're providing the emotional anchor they need to explore the world with confidence. That consistency builds a healthy self-identity, letting them know that no matter how much they grow, they always have a safe place to land. We aren't just a center; we're the foundation of their lifelong confidence.
