"I wish someone would have taught my that in school."
What is THAT skill that you wish you would have learned years and years (or even months) ago? For me it’s: 🎸🤹♀️🏄♀️
Are you ready to give your students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning outside of the classroom!?
Me too!
Try Something new (TSN) is a month long unit that gives students the opportunity to "try something new" for one month.
I am not exaggerating when I say I have shed tears 😭 over how incredible the final projects turned out.

This is one of my favorite projects because I love it and my students love it! My students were still showing me their 7th grade scrapbooks in their sophomore year!
The scrapbook project can be used for any book and I have designed a rubric just for Esperanza Rising as well!

Happy Monday ☕️
Here are some fun Thanksgiving writing prompts for this week!
Talk about them in the morning or use them as brain breaks between subjects!

Short weeks: 👍 or 👎?
Somehow short weeks are the worst and the best.
👍 More time for family/ relaxation!
👎 The kids are c.r.a.z.y 😂😂😂
👍 Time to catch up on missing work
👎 The students that are missing work are definitely the ones that are also absent 🤦♀️
If you’re looking for single lesson plans for your short week ➡️➡️➡️ try short stories!
My kiddos LOVE these assignments because they are short + engaging. I love them bc I don’t have to build entire lesson plans around them!
My favorite short story is ALWAYS “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson. It leaves my students, as they would say, “Shook-ith.” 😂😂😂

One of my favorite activities at the beginning of the year is creating a class playlist!
I let every student submit 3 *clean* songs to the playlist. This gives them OWNERSHIP of our classroom.
*I’ve shared my clean playlist in my bio!
A few notes:
🎼 I still preview every song. And no, I don’t accept every submission. When they ask if certain songs are acceptable respond, “If you have to ask, the answer is no.”
🎼 I build on this classroom playlist every year so that we’re not hearing the same 20 songs every year.
🎼 I know some people don’t like listening to music in the classroom. I get it and I usually only play music while we are doing Independent work. Playing music for the entire class keeps students from getting distracted for 10 mins choosing their own song (and we get some fun sing alongs) 😉
Enjoy!

One of my fav authors is . My current read is “You Win in the Locker Room First.”
Here are my favorite nuggets of wisdom so far:
🐥”It’s not OK to be moody. When you’re moody, people around you don’t know what to expect from you and this causes them to lose trust in you.”
🐥 “Never have a bad day, only bad moments.”
🐥 “If you are complaining, you are not leading. If you are leading, you are not complaining.”
Such simple and powerful take-aways!

“Sorry I won’t be able to sit with you today, my dad is bringing me lunch.”
- 14 and 25 year old Sarah
Dad brought lunch to school and it brought me just as much joy as it did when I was in high school.
I love about my dad because he is extremely generous, uses as much salt as I do, and we can talk about anything.
Thanks being intentional Dad!

Wacky Wednesday calls for a graduation gown, an air force cap, and Christmas lights!
My kiddos on the other hand, out did me with diapers wrapped around their arms, spoons in their hair, and cups braided into their hair 😂😂😂 I love 6th grade!
