Kyrene de la Colina 3rd graders were awarded 2nd place in this year's Read to the Final Four competition! The school was awarded $5,000 to support reading, literacy and the library program; a surprise doubling of the original $2,500 amount for runners-up! We are so proud of the coyotes for their dedication to reading.

Thank you Ms. Manuelito, Kyrene’s Native American liaison, for speaking to each second grade class about the Cherokee and Seminole Tribes. She talked about The Trail of Tears through a WONDERFUL presentation. She even gave the children some special paper for them to take notes on so they could remember this important event in our history.

Read to the Finals is a statewide literacy competition affiliated with the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four. It is a challenge that encourages Arizona third graders to build strong reading habits through a bracket-style competition based on the average number of minutes read per week. Since November, students across Arizona have been reading for the top 68 spots. Out of 190 schools in Arizona, Colina made the top 68 and starts their Challenge Bracket next week! Reading continues through March until the Final Four competition! We are so proud of our 3rd grade readers!
