The last academic assignment of the year for THS NJROTC was for the cadets to create various electronic circuits, including an AM radio, solar voltage tester, played music, and a motor that launches a spinning rotor blade.
๐Congratulations to the seniors of Thunderbird High School's Sensory Integration Program (SIP)! These students were able to celebrate their accomplishments and completion of their academic achievements in a private ceremony with their families, friends, and supporters from Thunderbird.๐
We are so proud of their hard work and growth over their time at Thunderbird. We wish them all the best as they transition into the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations!๐
On Friday, 10 May, THS NJROTC Drone Team spent the day learning to do electronics repair. The wildly successful drone team, under the command of Team Captain Jeremiah Moore, had dominated the drone competitions they had attended due to a challenging training schedule. The downside of flying the drones that much was the many crashes the drones had sustained, damaging the majority of the drone fleet. Many of the damages were to the connections on the electronics board and required resoldering disconnected wires. By the end of the day, 20 drones had been returned to Flight Status, saving over $2000 in replacement costs! BRAVO ZULU DRONE TEAM!
Hey students, as we are nearing the end of the academic year, it is still crucial for you to be in class every single day! Show up, show what youโre made of, and finish this race! Your perseverance and determination will pave the way for success.
๐ Final Exam Schedule ๐
At a promotion ceremony on Friday, 10 May 2024, THS NJROTC Cadet Jaylin Willcutt was promoted to Cadet Petty Officer Third Class. This promotion ceremony was special because the rank insignia was "pinned on" by the cadet's Grandfather Jim Boyd, who served in the Navy from 1966-1970, as an Aviation Boatswain Mate. The rank insignia was not the actual one Mr. Boyd had worn in the Navy but was passed down the same in spirit. The NJROTC program is not a recruiting program but borrows many of the traditions from the Naval Service, providing a rich heritage to draw from and forging an indelible connection to the past. BRAVO ZULU Cadet PO3 Willcutt!
The Outdoors Club completed an epic trip to Flagstaff. The 12 most involved students participated in the trip, which included brunch at Northern Arizona University, a driving and walking tour of Bearizona, VIP access at the Lowell Observatory, and a Walnut Canyon National Monument hike. Students saw various animals native to Arizona, ancient pueblos and artifacts, and nebulas, and even met an astronomer. To end the trip, the club visited the Yavapai Apache Reservation where they ate delicious frybread. Take a hike with the Outdoors Club!

The award is based on a wide array of factors, including community service hours, the Annual Military Inspection, performance at the Area Field Meet, hosting of NJROTC events, and many other aspects of NJROTC activities. The last time Tbird was recognized at this level was in 2016. All members of the Thunderbird NJROTC unit will be awarded the Distinguished Unit ribbon. Well done (Bravo Zulu) Cadets!
