Here are the results of this past weekend's Academic Decathlon. We took four medals- two Gold in Math and Speech, and Silver and Bronze in Interview.
And as a team we finished 7th in the region and 20th statewide (top 30 advance to state). First time in our school's history we have qualified for state. And, Greenway was the highest scoring GUHSD team (and only state qualifier).

to the Mountain View High School Academic Decathlon Team who placed 4th at the Division III Arizona Academic Decathlon Regional Tournament on February 1-2, 2020. This exceptional win advances the Team to the 2020 Arizona Academic Decathlon State Competition on March 6 and 7. The team competed against 14 other schools in 10 events, 3 judged by judges, and 7 written tests all focused on the curriculum theme β€œIn Sickness and in Health; An Exploration of Illness and Wellness.” Arizona Academic Decathlon

We would like to congratulate the three teams and decathletes who represented Arizona at USAD's Online National competition!

BASIS Peoria came in 2nd place in Small Schools, winning 17 medals. Red Mountain came in 5th place in Large Schools, winning 5 medals. And Show Low came in 11th place in Medium Schools, winning 1 medal.

USAD calls the Super Quiz the loudest and most intense, high-stakes celebration of all the subjects the decathletes have learned, and it's hard to disagree! Students collaborate in groups of three to figure out the best answer to each question before time runs out. Let's get ready to rumble!

We are beginning day two of our virtual state competition!

Our decathletes have already submitted an essay and delivered speeches and interviews via Zoom with judges all over the country. Today they will take seven objective tests, compete in Super Quiz using Kahoot, and attend a virtual award ceremony.

Tonight, the decathletes deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches and conduct a seven-minute interview before a panel of judges. Many former decathletes cite learning to speak in public as one of their most transformative experiences in the program.
