The Dizzy Whisk Founder and Culinary Coach, Joy Martin is a creative cook and former elementary school educator.
Fascinated by her students’ love of cooking, yet discouraged by their unhealthy food choices in the lunch room, Joy was determined to merge her two passions – teaching and helping children live a more healthy and informed lifestyle. While teaching sixth grade Joy began teaching an afterschool cooking class as an extra curricular staff requirement. Surprised by its success each session she had to t
urn students away! She continued to teach full time and improved her cooking club each time. The ideas were unlimited and after two years she knew this would make a wonderful and rewarding full time career. Joy soon realized that the kitchen classroom was a fun and creative place to learn and decided to make The Dizzy Whisk her full-time venture in the summer of 2010. Joy shares genuine enthusiasm, imagination, and patience while inspiring kids of all ages to get creative in the kitchen. She finds joy in teaching kids how to prepare healthy and delicious meals and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Her business has continued to grow and currently serves over 30 local schools and organizations. It is a mobile culinary program that teaches children how to cook nutritious and creative snacks from scratch. Topics covered in culinary class include Cooking/Food Safety, Importance of Healthy Nutrition, Proper Measuring/Chopping and Peeling, Spreading, Garnishing and Rolling Techniques, Taste and Smell, Manners and Etiquette and Foods From Around the World. We also use physical and creative activities, games, music and books to make learning fun and exciting. Each child is assigned an apron and cooking kit and all recipe supplies are included.
