Cactus Wren Elementary It is in the neighborhood bordered by Dunlap Avenue on the south and Peoria Avenue on the north, from 35th Avenue to 43rd Avenue.

Cactus Wren Elementary School, in the Washington Elementary School District, serves more than 400 kindergarten through sixth grade children and houses one of the center-based special education programs in the District. Cactus Wren affords students a rich curriculum aligned to Arizona College and Career Ready Standards. Cactus Wren is becoming a PBIS school. The PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention

s and Supports) theory focuses on teaching students expected behavior and positively reinforcing students when they behave appropriately. Students focus on three skills: being safe, responsible and kind. We are also committed to our Continuous Improvement Plan, which focuses on instructional practices. This year, staff are building our reading intervention plan and data discussions to make decisions to best meet the needs of all students every day. Staff also works together to implement the Response to Intervention (RTI) model. The structure of RTI provides Cactus Wren students with added academic support. Teacher instructional strategies continue to improve with a focus on increased student engagement and academic growth for all. Teachers are continuing to work on math instructional strategies to build a strong understanding of math skills and understanding for all students.

Our first CHAMP of the Week for this school year is Ms. Julianne Donahey, 1st grade Autism Teacher! Ms. Donahey is already challenging her students academically and implementing consistent routines and procedures to support social skills and learning!
