Have you ever wondered what you can do to support your child's audiologist? Check out the interview with Audiologist Caroline Sabatino with Phoenix Children's Hospital to find out!
We would not be able to do what we do without the help of some very important super HEAR-O's - Audiologists! Desert Voices is lucky to have Audiologist Caroline Sabatino from on campus to help us take care of our students' hearing health, and ensure they are getting the most out of their hearing devices and their education. From answering questions and helping troubleshoot device issues for our Parent Coaching families, completing device and listening checks with our Toddler and Preschool students, and consulting with our teachers, Ms. Caroline does it all!
Happy World Teachers’ Day 💫
Thank you for inspiring us to reach for the stars & dream big. Our world is a lot brighter because of you ⭐️

It is said that if children are the rainbow of life, then grandchildren are the pot of gold. This past week we were lucky enough to strike gold by opening our doors and celebrating Grandparents Day at DV—what a special day!
It’s a great day when we get to take advantage of the cooler weather in AZ and enjoy some outdoor time! All smiles from our favorite little people 💚😊
We are beyond grateful to this incredible group of women for supporting our special school and the inspiring children that we serve!!
Our littlest friends had their first day of toddler class today and we couldn’t be more excited to have them back! Only a few tears were shed so I would say it was a big success 💚

In less than 1 week we get to welcome our families back to our Early Intervention and Preschool programs at Desert Voices! If you would like to help the teachers get their classrooms ready for friends, fun, & foundational language skills, please check out the Desert Voices Teachers' Wish List on Amazon, and help us get Back-to-School ready!
The playground at Desert Voices is one of the kids' favorite spots.... and one of the biggest language motivators! A heartfelt THANK YOU to our volunteers who helped re-fresh a few of their favorite spots including the tunnel and little play-house. We are eagerly awaiting the start of the school year in just 2 short weeks when the tunnel will fill with a parade of bikes and the little house transforms into an ice-cream shop or hide-and-seek spot.
We are grateful for our community of supporters!
Today was our last full day of school for the 2022-2023 school year! 🌟
Our preschoolers wanted to share what they are going to miss about Desert Voices but also what they can't wait for this summer!!
Now, off to prepare for our big end of year celebration happening tomorrow! Did someone say snowcones!? 🍧
~
1. "I am going to miss Kendall." ➡"I can't wait to watch the birds and bunnies in my backyard."
2. "I will miss the playground." ➡ "I am excited to play with Snowball."
3. "I am going to miss painting at school." ➡ "I can't wait for days with my family!"
4. "I am going to miss my friends." ➡ "I can't wait for all the time to spend with my dogs."
This year our team was blessed with a wondering new addition, Miss MacKenzie! She joined our team as a Teaching Assistant but has brought so much more to our little school, like the world of dance! Our preschoolers recently had the opportunity to showcase their hard work in the recital and we could not be more proud of them 💫 thank you for bringing your love of dance to our school!
In May 2023, we were thrilled to find out that the entire Phoenix Suns organization and Phoenix Suns Charities Board of Directors were proud to select Desert Voices as a grant recipient.
🏀 🏀 🏀
With $15,000, we can provide thousands of instructional hours to our families -- a foundation of learning that will last a lifetime.
Our programs love incorporating basketball and ball skills into our weekly activities. Basketball concepts allow our students listening practice in a real-life, hands-on peer activity. They need to be listening for WHO is passing to them and WHAT direction the ball is coming from! Basketball also gives our students confidence!
Our students increase their communication skills and game skills and develop the confidence to step into whatever is new -- with EASE!
Thank you Phoenix Suns!!
We were all smiles at DV this Monday ~ stopped by to grant Desert Voices $20,000 to be used toward a Teaching Assistant position and we are beyond ! This award will directly support the listening and spoken language instruction that lays the foundation for a child's educational goals and supports the deaf and hard of hearing children at Desert Voices in reaching their learning potential. We can't think of a better way to start the week! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🌵
We want to give a huge shout out to everyone who has donated to our teams joining the Walk-A-Thon event tonight, and to our 25th Anniversary Event. We are SO CLOSE to our goal! It is hard to even find the right words. How to properly say thank you for all we have been given, because a thank you just doesn’t not seem like it’s enough.
Schuff Steel continues to amaze us. They have given so much to our little school over the past 19 years, yet some how they keep outdoing themselves each year. This years tournament set all kinds of records. We sold out within 7 weeks. We had a record number of sponsors. We had a record number of golfers, that turned into a record waiting list. We sold record amounts of raffle tickets. And we set the bar with a record number of volunteers. Let’s not forget the biggest one yet—record raised $300,000 for Desert Voices!
To the Schuff Steel community, vendors, and volunteers, thank you! To the DV team and families, thank you! We are forever grateful for you all.
Our sweet Rory! Rory joined us in 2021 and quickly became a friend to all. Rory was known for her nurturing spirit, her ability to connect with others, and her fun personality. During Wren’s time at Desert Voices, she was able to take any activity or any lesson and turn it into the most creative, sparkly, and fun adventure or play experience that you could imagine! Wren started in our programs in 2019, always showing up to school with her bilateral cochlear implants paired with her high heeled princess shoes, and continued to excel -- leaving Desert Voices with age appropriate language skills! PHOENIX, AZ—Desert Voices has been awarded a grant by the Arizona Community Foundation. The grant from ACF will give Desert Voices additional resources to contract with an audiologist to visit the school for four hours once a week and work with all the children in Toddler Class and the Preschool. The on-site presence of an audiologist allows children to have appropriate sound as quickly as possible.
As a parent of a student explains, "I was lucky enough to have found Desert Voices and was very impressed that in addition to expert teachers of the deaf they had an audiologist on site to help with device maintenance. Helping children with cochlear implants succeed is very much a collaborative effort, and I know that my daughter's success is because Desert Voices recognizes that!”
Desert Voices was founded 25 years ago and has served over 350 children with hearing loss providing listening and spoken language services. Established in 1978, the Arizona Community Foundation is a statewide family of charitable funds supported by thousands of Arizonans. More information is available at azfoundation.org
There’s just some kids that you know are going to be stars! One of those kids is Aubrey! Aubrey is deaf in her right ear and wears a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) to access sound which is amazing since Aubrey’s favorite things to do at Desert Voices were to “dance, dance, dance” and to “sing, sing, sing!” Aubrey graduated in 2022 and now attends kindergarten in the Phoenix area. Thanks for helping us celebrate 25 years, Aubrey!
