What does it take to put on an art show? School of Criminology and Criminal Justice doctoral students Alexis Klemm and Madeline Boersma manage the {Ink}arcerated program. They spent months creating and delivering art supply boxes, meeting with incarcerated individuals at the facilities to answer questions, picking up the finished pieces and, finally, preparing the exhibition space. From selling cookies to standing up for others, Crystal Estrada has always been driven by service. Growing up in a low-income community in Fontana, California, she saw firsthand how gaps in the justice system impacted families โ€” and decided early on she wanted to be part of the solution.

Now, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice's spring 2026 Outstanding Graduate has earned her bachelor's and plans to complete a masterโ€™s degree in public administration. After that, it's on to law school, with the goal of becoming a public defender for underserved communities.
