Superintendent Boggs joined counselors and teachers from across Maricopa County last week at Paradise Valley Community College for the Advanced Business Services Educator Externship β a full day of career exploration, hands-on learning, and real conversations with working professionals in cybersecurity, accounting, and business law.
The idea behind the day was a simple one: educators can't connect students to career pathways they don't know themselves. The industry panel was a highlight β real professionals sharing real answers β and educators left with a sharper picture of where these careers lead and how to guide students toward them. Attendees also took home free, ready-to-use resources from Superintendent Boggs's office and the Center for the Future of Arizona.
When educators are exposed to industry, students benefit. Full stop. π
Thank you to the Center for the Future of Arizona, Paradise Valley Community College, and Bank of America for making the day possible. π

πΊπΈ Superintendent Shelli Boggs wishes our Maricopa County community a Happy Flag Day!
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the first flag of the United States, declaring "thirteen stripes, alternate red and white" and "thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."
One of the most beloved early versions arranged those thirteen stars in a circle β a design often linked to the Betsy Ross story β so that no single state would stand above the others. Each color carried meaning: red for hardiness and valor, white for purity and innocence, and blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
Nearly 250 years later, those values still speak to what we hope to instill in every student: courage, integrity, and respect for one another.
Take a moment today to fly your flag proudly. πΊπΈ

Superintendent Shelli Boggs is proud to share what's happening inside Maricopa County's Durango Juvenile Detention Center. π
Through a partnership with Arizona State University's Universal Learner Courses, 54 young people at Durango have completed 192 college courses since the program launched in October 2024. Seven are now eligible for Earned Admission into ASU β and one may begin classes this fall.
For many of these students, college was never part of the picture. Some had left school. Some had never imagined themselves in a classroom at all. But inside Durango, they're earning credits, building their GPAs, and proving β to themselves and to the people who love them β that one chapter doesn't define the whole story.
As one student put it: "Nothing can stop you from getting your education, and no one can take away your education."
Education opens doors that stay open. We're grateful to ASU Learning Enterprise for partnering with us to make sure every young person knows that door is theirs to walk through. π

A note from Superintendent Boggs for Maricopa County voters:
As you prepare for the July 21 Primary Election, you may notice that your local school governing board candidates are not on the ballot. This is by design, not an oversight.
School board races in Arizona are nonpartisan, which means there is no party primary for these seats. Every qualified candidate advances directly to the November 3 General Election, where they appear in the nonpartisan section of the ballot β listed by name and office, without party labels.
Candidates across Maricopa County are filing to run for their local governing boards with our office. You will have the opportunity to learn about them, hear their priorities, and cast your vote this fall.
Governing board members make decisions that reach directly into our classrooms β shaping budgets, policies, and priorities for students and teachers alike. When November arrives, I encourage you to look for these candidates on your ballot and make your voice heard. π³οΈ

βοΈ Superintendent Boggs reminds families: temperatures are rising across Maricopa County β it's already 105Β°F at Phoenix Sky Harbor today!
When the heat climbs like this, staying hydrated isn't just smart, it's a safety priority. Whether your student is heading to summer programs, camps, or playing outside, water is the best defense against heat exhaustion.
So let's test your hydration knowledge π
π§ How many glasses of water should you drink each day? A) 4 cups B) 8 cups C) 12 cups
Drop your answer in the comments! Parents and students, play along β and a few quick reminders from Superintendent Boggs to beat the heat:
π° Carry a refillable water bottle and sip throughout the day
π§’ Wear light clothing, hats, and sunscreen outdoors
β° Save outdoor activity for early morning or evening
π Never leave children in a parked vehicle
Stay cool, Maricopa County. π

Yesterday, our Transitions Team and our partners at Arizona State University (ASU) presented at the 2026 Arizona Correctional Educators Symposium β and they had an incredible story to share.
For years, incarcerated juveniles who earned their high school diploma faced a dead end. There was no pathway to higher education.
Today, through a strong partnership with ASU, that door is open. Incarcerated students can pursue college degrees while working toward their own futures. It's real access. It's real opportunity. It's changing lives.
Our Transitions Team works tirelessly to make sure no student β regardless of circumstance β falls through the cracks. Together with our ASU partners, we are proving that education is the ultimate second chance.
Thank you to everyone at ASU and on our Transitions Team. You're showing what's possible when we believe in every student's potential. π
