TEOE photographers Brandon Sullivan and Bob Rink have completed their two week photography session with hosts Kennedy Kibet in Eldoret, Kenya Maggie and Peter Ole Sabay in Bukwo, Uganda.

They were passing through London/Heathrow Airport as they wrote this report. They were able to meet and talk photography with ten students to prepare them to create photos of the their communities for the next “Through the Eyes of a Student”. Their images will be included in the upcoming TEOE Africa Exhibit. Their last few days were spent catching more scenes around Eldoret, Kenya after five day in Bokwo, Uganda, just over the Kenyan border to the northwest of Eldoret.

This project was possible through the cooperation of Scottsdale Sister Cities. 🙏🙏🙏

Through Each Other’s Eyes associate photographers Brandon Sullivan and Bob Rink have arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, where they began their journey with visits to an elephant orphanage and a giraffe center.

The exchange continues in Eldoret, one of Scottsdale’s sister cities, hosted by TEOE photographer partner Kennedy Kibet. Day trips throughout the surrounding region have provided meaningful opportunities to document both city and rural life.

During their time there, Brandon and Bob connected with county officials and shared photography lessons with students eager to learn the craft. Bob also spent time with the Eldoret Fire Department, photographing and documenting their team.

Across the ocean and filled with heart 🇦🇺✨
Grant Petras, one of the two Aussie blokes from our exchange has taken the lead on producing this exhibition, now showing at the Old Town Hall Gallery in Victor Harbor, South Australia.

In just 10 days, the show has welcomed over 1,000 visitors, an incredible turnout for a small seaside town and a true testament to the power of storytelling through photography.

So proud of Grant and the entire Australian group for bringing this exchange to life with such care, vision, and community support. If you’re near Victor Harbor, the show is up through next Monday, go see it, feel it, and be part of it.

Check out The Arizona Republic’s new story on Through Each Others Eyes Photographer, Mark Laverman, who was unexpectedly stranded on the remote island of Socotra with his wife after Yemen imposed a sudden travel embargo. With flights canceled and strict cash-only rules for evacuation, the couple scrambled for days to secure enough “perfect condition” US bills to get off the island. Thanks to help from locals and a last-minute wire transfer they finally made it out and still say the trip was worth it. This is a wild human interest story about travel, resilience, and perspective from one of our own photographers. Read the full article in The Arizona Republic.

How an Arizona couple got stranded on Yemeni island, how they got home Mark and Michelle Laverman planned on visiting the unique island of Socotra for a week. Destabilizing events in the region changed that.
