The ABC’s of Water Safety.
A is for Adult. B is for Barrier. C is for Classes.
It's been a really bad year for drownings - both fatal and non fatal. Let's work together to STOP this pattern!
Please, please please put as many barriers in place as you possibly can to avoid a avoidable tragedy. Stay alert and keep your family safe!
A = Adult Supervision: designate a responsible, sober adult who can swim to watch kids in/around/near water AND be a buddy to you!
B = Barriers: these simply buy you time to find the child who slips out of sight for that brief moment - before they get in to danger
C = Classes & Coast Guard Approves Life Vests
Classes: be sure to enroll any non-swimmers in to swim lessons at the earliest of ages. If you don't know how to swim - now is the time to learn!
Coast Guard Approved Life Vests: wear them - always when on a vessel (boat/paddle board/kayak/canoe) and on non-swimmers
D = Drains: teach your children to avoid playing near or on them. Entrapment is a concern expecially when the drain isn't VGB compliant. All commercial drains should be, but residential drains may not be, so just avoid them. If you don't have a VGB compliant drain in your pool, please look into getting yours retrofitted.
