Coaching isn’t about telling people what to do. It’s about collaborating with and supporting your clients to help them make changes on their own behalf.

Ever have a coach where you felt like they were talking at you and not to you? Yeah same. It makes you feel not valued as a person. Instead you feel like a number and it can really discourage you from showing up for that coach and yourself.

In my coaching journey, I have learned it is more than just counting and prescribing workouts. It’s about the relationships. The trust you build with your client because you are with them in such a vulnerable state.

Life changes are scary! Changing your lifestyle from something that is comfortable to something that is unknown and uncomfortable is terrifying! So if you can’t build trust with the person who is by your side then how are you going to be successful?!

I bring this up because I see too many coaches in this industry who are just pumping out as many plans as they can without really connecting to their client.

I encourage you to really interview a coach if you decide to get one. Ask them what they are going to do for you emotionally as well as physically. Ask them what kind of support they will provide. Also a big one, ask them about their boundaries! Sounds weird right? If you ask this it’ll help each of you know what to expect during the process. Respecting each others boundaries is crucial to the trust piece.

What do you look for in a coach?

As always,
Keep lifting fun
Spread love
Drink your fu***ng water

Intervals. Make. Athletes.

HIIT (high intensity interval training) is one of the best ways to achieve interval training. HIIT training usually consist of a 1:1 or 1:2 effort, meaning you sprint for 30 seconds and rest for 30 seconds or burpee box jumps for 1 minute and rest for 2 minutes.

But why do intervals when you can just do a steady state cardio? Intervals have so many benefits.
1. Improve cardio-respiratory health: increasing your VO2 Max will improve your overall health. The more aerobically fit you are, the more blood your heart can pump and the longer and faster you can go in your workouts. Better heart health = lower risk of heart disease, which is an epidemic in this country.
2. It’s extremely time efficient. You can burn the same, if not more calories in a 15-20 minute HIIT session than you would if you did a 45-60 minute steady state cardio. (I am not claiming that steady state cardio should never be done.)
3. You can still build muscle while doing HIIT training. HIIT does not have to be just running or cycling. You can do HIIT weight training as well. A lot of CrossFit type workouts are more HIIT style than steady state. By adding and keeping on lean muscle you can also boost your metabolism.
4. It can be fun and entertaining. It is not the same mundane walk on the treadmill or couple mile run that you do every day. You can switch up your HIIT workouts based on what muscle groups you are working that day.

There are so many more benefits but if you have made it this far, I am not going to bore you with a 10 page post. 😴🤪

If you need help with your interval training hit me up. I am tons of workouts and programs that focus on changing body composition through interval weight training.

Much Love ✌🏼
