We are very pleased to announce that this year we will be offering a Summer Program. One of our staff Ms. Hannah Hastings , will be leading the sessions along with Mr. Peter Murphy.

If your child is going to be new to our program, or to our school next school year, this is a great opportunity for them to get familiar with our staff, our campus and keep their academic skills going during the summer break.

SPORTS
Join us on the field, on the court, as we learn about teamwork, sportsmanship and having fun while learning about many different kinds of sports. Whether you like football, soccer, floor hockey, basketball, or whether you want to try some sports that maybe you didn't know about before, we will have a blast exploring the wide world of sports and having fun along the way.

MUSIC
Music has a little bit of everything. Come join us as we explore music through games, songs, dance, and fun, we learn about math through beats and rhythms, we learn about history and literature when exploring the composers or songs, we learn about movement when dancing in time to the music, we learn about the families of instruments and how they are played. We do all of this, and we have a blast doing it.

Mr. Peter Murphy, new to our staff this school year, will also be here continuing to offer music and P.E. and lead a couple of early morning hikes.

If your child is going to be new to our program, or to our school next school year, this is a great opportunity for them to get familiar with our staff, our campus and keep their academic skills honed during the summer break.

We are pleased to announce the Book Fair is BACK! After missing out on many beloved traditions, our spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. The fair is scheduled to run 5/9-5/13.

DAYS/TIME/PLACE: Monday - Friday 5/9-5/13

It will be held in the GYM!

MONDAY - PREVIEW FOR STUDENS / STAFF

TUESDAY - THURSDAY - 2:30PM-4:30PM

FRIDAY - 3:00PM-6:00PM

Hello MDS Parents!

Here is a photo from our Middle School Parents 9/11 Roundtable discussion today ! The students paid rapt attention to the experiences and insights of the parents and asked great questions of our guests !

Today was the start of Reptile Week. We learned what the characteristics of a reptile are. We learned about chameleons, crocodiles, alligators, snakes, and sea turtles. The children got to hold Sniper (ball python), our JEI class pet, and have their picture taken.

Montessori Day School’s Middle School students enrolled in Street Law this year participated in a mock trial, held on May 20th in the gym, to allow for social distancing. Middle School co-teacher Patricia Vroom, a retired attorney who teaches the Street Law class, served as the presiding judge, but otherwise, all of the roles, both attorneys and witnesses, were played by the Middle School students themselves. Those who served in attorney roles wrote their own Opening Statements and Closing Arguments, and created their own lines of questioning of the witnesses, for both Direct and Cross-Examination.

At the close of the trial, the audience, consisting of the remaining Middle School students, along with the 6th grade students who will be Middle Schoolers next year, served as jurors, under the guidance of MDS parent and attorney, Veronica Shatte-Rice.

Teacher Appreciation Week is a celebration of educators.

If the pandemic made one thing clear, it’s that educators are more than just teachers at the front of classrooms. They are counselors and helpers. They are healers and advocates. They are artists and leaders. And for some students and families, they are the glue that holds their lives together.

So how do you say, “THANK YOU” to our administrative/ staff/maintenance who filled these roles and so many more during a school year filled with chaos and challenges.

THURSDAY Letter Day - Our Teachers/Staff lead in the ‘write’ direction.” Students write a personal letter or draw a picture to give to their teachers.

FRIDAY - Our staff will be enjoying a delicious luncheon !
