BOARD WATCH | Board member privilege

According to board member Denice Garcia, earlier this week she claims she was denied entry into district office to pick up documents by a young man manning the front lobby desk, telling her it was "against policy" to let her through.

Ms. Garcia said also said this was the first time that has happened.

Odd timing for a change in practice. We wonder if other board members are under the same policy.

District office sign-in logs could help answer this, as well as security camera footage of DO employee entry areas (where sign-ins aren't required 🤔).

STAFF FORUM UPDATE | Wellness & Staff Retention

CEA President and Secretary attended the district’s first Staff Forum, which focused on employee wellness and staff retention.

Six teachers attended the forum, along with 17 district personnel.

CEA’s Meet and Confer team had previously been informed that the forum was intended to be a staff-only event. Also in attendance were the Governing Board President, an incoming board member who had not yet formally taken office, and a community member.

CEA will continue attending opportunities where employee experiences, working conditions, wellness, and retention are being discussed. We also believe staff voice is strongest when employees from across the district are represented in those conversations.

We’ll continue sharing factual updates with members about district meetings, forums, and decisions that affect Cartwright employees.

BOARD WATCH | Cartwright Governing Board Meeting

The Cartwright Governing Board meets tomorrow, and CEA will be following the meeting and sharing updates with members. On CEA’s Board Watch tomorrow will be President Laurie Richards and ESP Director Bernadina Rodriguez.

Who is planning to attend in person?

Not sure why board leadership can't separate the complex and unresolved spending items from the straightforward items like stipends for clubs so we can, as district leadership has said, 'move forward.'
