The Arizona Education Association (AEA) reminds us on their website that according to the U.S. Census Bureau,
https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2021/public-school-spending-per-pupil.html
only 48% of school funding in Arizona comes from the state. With the growth of micro schools, that funding is in jeopardy.
Micro schools gained prominence during the pandemic. What are they? They offer individualized, personalized learning, and proponents swear by their benefits. However, this brings us back to the age-old debate of public vs. private funding.
While the idea of personalized learning is noble, we must consider the bigger picture. For every micro school that receives state funding, there is one less dollar available to keep public schools a fixture in our communities.

CEA is still working for YOU during the summer! ☀️
June is pride month! As we head into the last week, what do you think are still some major issues facing our LBGTQA+ students and teachers within our school district?
The Arizona state legislature has passed a budget and adjourned for the year.
What are your thoughts on the current majority in our legislature prioritizing ESA vouchers above all else?
The ESA voucher program also provided nearly a million dollars in taxpayer money to the church where Trump just held a campaign event.
What would happen if you tried to use school district resources to host a campaign event for a presidential candidate on your campus? Would the rapture start? 🧐

New reporting confirms that the out-of-control ESA voucher program is paying for well-off parents to buy individual Lego sets for their kids – including one Lego set that cost $1,800.
What could that amount of money have bought in your own classroom?

From this past Thursday-to Saturday, some members of our new E-board and E-committee attended Arizona Education Association’s Growth and Leadership Summit.
Jess led for the fourth year in a row, a session called “Secondary Trauma”. She has had much success and even other school districts such as Paradise Valley have had her come in and train staff! Way to go Jess!
Sessions this year included how to take on your executive role, effective blitzing and organizing, and so much more! It’s a great way to network with other educators and learn about how other locals do things. We are so excited to take all of our learning and use that to help us serve you all in the 2024-2025 school year. 🤓
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 🔦
