This week, students engaged in digital wellness sessions facilitated by Katey McPherson, Director of Professional Development for Bark for Schools. We all learned about social responsibility, the difference between "digital candy" and "digital vegetables," and about the digital footprints we make.

First day assembly with a live rock band. Check!
Just some last minute teacher bonding from the end of the week! Everyone please enjoy this final weekend before the hard work and real fun begins...
We've got some new things on campus this year... like a SMART interactive display that did this by itself when we requested it say something to the returning students. High school math teacher Mr. Deerwester is pretty impressed since it also seems to have memorized the multiplication tables up to ten million!
It's a huge job (or as Mrs. Boone might say, a "gargantuan responsibility") - the reading teachers of New Way are busy organizing all the letters around campus... by Monday, they'll be fully-formed words that teach us things!
The new school year is just around the corner! Mrs. Warner is back as the new Transition Specialist... and so are the dogs!
Based on more than three decades of data, the Wilson Reading System provides students who have a language-based learning disability with the foundational and language skills that are necessary to access grade-level text. The New Way Wilson Team spent part of their summer attending the Wilson Training Conference in Boston!
New Way's teachers love to travel during break, mostly to places with beautiful sunsets! Where is everyone going to this summer to get out of the heat?
The new leaders at New Way Academy may have huge hats to fill, but the total circumference of their heads has already increased by 2% just over the holiday break!
We hope everyone is having a happy holiday weekend - enjoy the hotdogs and snow cones if you want, but the real treats happen midweek at New Way! (see: neon dirt worms)
Mr. Walker and Mrs. Ross brought a unique passion to New Way in a manner that no one else could have pulled off... and all that dedication was focused on one thing - the students. Abbey and Mike's official last day was Friday - they deserve all the flowers, stars, and standing ovations...
We have plenty of healthy lunches during the year... what are your favorite summer foods? Buster and Bridgette Bulldog (not pictured) pretty much just go for dog food 365/24/7. Some of our staff (pictured) prefer cotton candy.
During the school year there are plenty of sports and high fives to keep us all physically active... but it's (really) hot out now! Any ideas for keeping cool and staying in shape over the summer?
One of the best things about summer is midweek treats - themed hangouts every week in our Wonderspace!
Summer is here... New Way will be getting the campus ready for an exciting new year, and our advice is to stay cool and keep coloring!
Drink plenty of water and read lots of books!
The last week of the school year at New Way Academy was one of celebration for the students whose hard work was recognized with awards and graduations! Thank you to the parents and teachers who helped make that happen!
The final 3 days of the year at New Way Academy are mostly focused on one thing (besides a few high school finals)... celebrating! We celebrate all of our students across all levels with award ceremonies, promotions, and graduations! And those involve speeches, shout-outs, balloons, tasty snacks, and... well, you get the idea!
The Farewell Celebration for Mrs. Ross and Mr. Walker last Friday was such fun! More photos of the dancing, the rapping, the tears, the fears, and the eggs will be available on our Facebook insider account for families.
We've had countless years of amazing leadership here at New Way and can't wait to celebrate Mrs. Ross and Mr. Walker tomorrow!
We're celebrating our Executive Director and Head of School all this week before a farewell assembly on Friday - Abbey Ross and Michael Walker are both one-of-a-kind who have helped shape New Way Academy for over 15 years!
On Friday, May 19th, we will have a huge farewell celebration in honor of Mrs. Abbey Ross and Mr. Michael Walker! Our Executive Director and Head of School started at New Way over 15 years ago - then (top) and now (bottom)!
70 years ago, Eleanor Roosevelt urged Congress to create a day to recognize educators. It took awhile, but that officially became a whole week in 1984! New Way values its teachers so much. Please take a moment to let the teachers in your life know how much you appreciate them!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to all of our amazing, talented, and supportive teachers! You make a difference in our students' lives every day and make New Way the special school that it is. We ❤ you!
It's School Principal's Day and we're celebrating Mr. Walker, our Head of School! For the past 11 years in this role he's been supportive and nurturing to New Way students, while building a rigorous academic program and coaching multiple athletic teams! Thank you for all that you do, Mr. Walker!
Last week our Grand Canyon River Crew spent time volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. Together they packed enough meals to feed 76 kids every day for an entire year!
In Lower School science class, students worked on refining their fine motor and interception skills by making origami cups to drink sparkling water. Our Occupational Therapy team brought this fun activity into the classroom as part of our Integrated Therapy Model.
Our juniors and seniors were hard at work this week beautifying our campus and getting in some community service hours doing a "window washing extravaganza!" Thanks everyone for making our campus spotless!
Check out our feature in Frontdoors TV! Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Keathley sat down with Carey Peña to talk about all things New Way.
