Doctora Maldonado’s book chapter on immigrant childhoods was published in the edited series “Critical Cultural Studies of Childhood: Home in Early Childhood Care and Education.”
Super proud and grateful for the opportunity to continue to spread Border Crit Theory as an important framework for contextualizing the lived experiences of immigrant families in the borderlands. Here’s a glimpse of the chapter.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Angeles Maldonado, Belén Sisa, and Alejandra Pablos will be joining our film team as Impact Producers. They will bring their record of activism and advocacy on immigrant rights to advance the message of the film.
Dr. Angeles Maldonado is a human rights scholar, activist, and author, born and brought up in Salvatierra, Mexico, now living in Arizona. Dr. Maldonado’s experiences as an immigrant child inspired her to become an advocate for social justice and migrant rights. She is the CEO of Ybarra Maldonado Law Group and the Founder and Executive Director of The Border Crit Institute, foregrounding the voices and experiences of BIPOC communities living in the borderlands.
Belén Sisa is a DACAmented immigrant rights and progressive political activist, communications professional, and creator from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is the former National Latino Press Secretary for Bernie 2020 and most recently, the Regional Field Director for Democracy Initiative, co-leading the AZ Coalition to End the Filibuster in the fight to defend and expand our democracy. In 2023, Belén launched the Pretty Serious podcast, where she discusses topics from politics and tv/film to pop cultural events and her thoughts on important issues currently impacting our world.
Alejandra Pablos is an Arizona-based reproductive justice community organizer, abolitionist cultural worker, and storyteller, who has been actively fighting against her own deportation order for over a decade. In 2018, her story received national attention when singled out by ICE after participating in an act of civil disobedience and subsequently detained for 43 days. The campaign was born out of that crisis. Through organizing she creates insightful critiques on reproductive justice, incarceration, migrant justice discourse, and anti-Black racism.

Repost On 17th October, the 11th day of Israel’s bombardments on the besieged Gaza Strip, Israel bombed the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza, killing more than 500 people including patients, doctors & those seeking refuge.
Gaza is home to 2.3 million Palestinians (1.1 million children) and is one of the world’s most densely populated places. Israel has held it under siege for 17 years. In the last 11 days Israel has dropped thousands of bombs on the imprisoned population, estimated to be the equivalent force of a quarter of a nuclear bomb. Human rights experts have also confirmed the use of the internationally-banned weapon, white phosphorus.
On 15 October 2023, over 800 scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies and genocide studies signed a public statement warning of the possibility of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Signatories include prominent Holocaust and genocide studies scholars.
“As scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies and genocide studies, we are compelled to sound the alarm about the possibility of the crime of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. We do not do so lightly, recognising the weight of this crime, but the gravity of the current situation demands it.”
to prevent further death and destruction NOW.
