Unfortunately, many reading programs are still pushing sight words. The word “the” is the first HFW introduced in a popular reading series that claims to be based on the science of reading. It just doesn’t make sense to teach a child how to read the word “the” before you’ve taught the letters t, h, e or the concept of digraphs. 🤔🤨
