After this week’s storm, the outdoors became a classroom full of discoveries. The children searched for what had moved and what had appeared, noticing new treasures and changes in their environment. They drew what they found, then shared their discoveries with the class, turning a moment of curiosity into a shared investigation.

Noticing the temperature difference between the summer heat and the cool indoors, the opposites of warmth and cold sparked conversations about weather, temperature, and the changing seasons.

A provocation is an invitation to wonder, to notice, to feel, and to make meaning. For our 2-year-olds, this invitation took the form of the color “azul.” The children explored the color not just with their eyes, but with their whole bodies and senses. A simple color became a space for curiosity, discovery, and connection.

The start of our school year is all about forming connections. Every friendship begins with a conversation, a shared idea, or a helping hand. This first week together has been filled with meaningful moments as the children begin creating a community of learners and forming friendships that we hope last a lifetime.

Children need time to explore outdoors, even during hotter months. Water play, frequent hydration breaks, and early morning exploration help make that possible! Until cooler weather arrives, we are finding every opportunity to safely enjoy the outdoors through play, connection, and discovery.
