Campers will learn about worldwide afroroots. In Art class, they will explore this by learning and making their own Junkanoo costume.
Junkanoo is named after John Canoe, a warrior from Ghana who established a stronghold and fought wars against Europeans for two decades in the 17th century. Junkanoo originated in the Bahamas masquerade and is now celebrated as colorful street festivals across more than a dozen Caribbean islands.
