At James W. Rice we are teaching and learning the importance of keeping our priority things on top. We manage our time so that our first things come first, not last.

Wednesdays are for collaboration! Today our teachers collaborated in six trait writing instruction.

Fall Sports are underway and our teams are looking good! Boys soccer and Co-Ed Volleyball had a great start to their season. This week our Girls Soccer team will also play. GOOD LUCK JAGUARS!

Art Teacher, Cheryl Ross is offering a Cosmetology elective this year for 7th and 8th graders. This week students are learning about facial shapes, contouring and creating an effect specific to the client's needs.

This past week we saw lessons with collaboration and inquiry, outdoor learning, tryouts for our sports teams, a school tour and our first student assemblies recognizing our Leaders of the Month.

What a great first week that was! Our students and teachers were excited to meet and greet one another. Our Child Nutrition team was busy getting lunch application information out. Our students were happy to see one another again. We even pulled off a Fire Drill and our Kindergarteners handled it like champs!

Aaron and his team delivered food for our entire staff today! We look forward to some fundraising nights as well as joining together to help support Phoenix Children's Hospital.

There was much excitement in the air as our certified staff returned from summer break to a day full of new learning and team building in our new science lab.

Our teachers have been busy this summer with trainings and team planning meetings. We can't wait to see our students on August 8!

AVID Site team at summer institute! We can't wait to bring new strategies back for our scholars!

The school year has been extended just a bit for these students taking advantage of more educational opportunities this summer. Students have been getting additional instruction in reading and writing, as well as getting to do some really fun things in PE with our coaches, and in our VILS lab doing a variety of projects.

This week we had some special celebrations for our retirees. Best wishes to Mrs. Lewis, 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Albert Abril, our custodian, and Mr. Perez, our principal. We will miss you!

Thank you Veteran's Plumbing for donating new bikes for our Perfect Attendance winners. We have one student who hasn't missed any days, and three others who only missed one day this school year.

Our kindergartners LOVED the Butterfly Wonderland! It was a perfect activity to end the year! We’re so grateful that we were able to provide our kindergartners with so many of opportunities to learn outside of the classroom this year!

Our cafeteria staff is the best! Thank you for a year full of wonderful breakfasts and lunches for our students.

Students were treated to a sweet treat for all of their hard work taking recent state tests. We are very proud of our scholars. Thank you to the Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) for providing the ice cream and an abundance of yummy toppings.

It was the journey that made this team strong! Congratulations to our girls softball team for an amazing season!
