It’s hard to sum up 10 years of community and impact into one post, but we can sure try. In 2015, REC was formed with one mission: to empower creatives to do more of what they love. And that’s exactly what we did. From the warehouse to Market Street. From a West Philly venue to Firefly Festival to SXSW. Over 10,000 creatives served, over $3 million paid into the pockets of creators, 25,000+ studio bookings, 100,000+ hours of studio sessions, 1,000+ educational programs—and we can’t even begin to put a number on the connections and collaborations that took place inside and outside the REC building.

This post is to celebrate over 10 years of REC. Ten years of finding unique ways to bring the creative community together and add value to our local creative economy.

While you may have seen recent news of REC’s 9th & Market Street location closing—and while yes, that is true for now—it doesn’t take away from everything we’ve accomplished over the years.

With REC’s space closing on December 20th, it brings one chapter of REC to an end. But it also marks the beginning of new opportunities for so many. The future of REC’s space and REC’s business is still to be determined, and we’ll keep everyone updated as things become more clear—but one thing is for sure: Philadelphia’s creative community is filled with incredible talent that will continue to grow and evolve. And as the individuals behind REC, we will continue to support and add value to this community for years to come.

Year 5 of Black Music City and the energy was everything  ⚡️

Our 2025 grantees showcased their Black Music City grant projects to the public at REC Studios on Friday, August 15th - showcasing the incredible work they’ve been building. From emerging artists to seasoned veterans, each showcase reminded us why this program exists. 

For five years, we’ve awarded more than half a million dollars in grants to over 100 Black creators in our region. But the real impact? Moments like these when our community takes the stage and shows the world what Philadelphia’s Black music legacy looks like. 

Huge love to our partners and for making this vision a reality year after year. This collaboration proves what happens when capital, community, and creators move together.
