Our Alumni/Industry Partners & Student Mentoring Program has officially kicked off for the academic year!

Students and their mentors met either virtually or in-person to get to know each other and set goals for the year. The pairs will meet and check-in several times throughout the academic year, as mentors help our engineering students foster professional and personal development.

Bioengineering student Joaquin Cohen Freue, is proud to follow in his family's footsteps as a Hispanic engineer. Coming from a family of Hispanic STEM professionals, Joaquin was inspired by his father, a fellow engineer.

He is the president of Latinos in STEM, championing the organization's mission to support and empower Latino students pursuing degrees in STEM. Follow along in our stories today as Joaquin takes followers through a day in his life featuring his internship and an LSTO meeting!

Last month, our student scholars gathered for the annual Student Scholar Luncheon to hear insights from an alum/donor and write thank you notes to their own scholarship donors.

This year, Lynne Tarka Ewell, ENG ’86 shared her experience and motivations as a scholarship donor and the impact the College of Engineering has had on her family, as Lynne's father, Dr. John Tarka, was an electrical engineer and faculty member of the college.

Our student scholars and donors will be celebrated later this month at the Fall Scholarship Reception!

"Hispanic Heritage Month is important to me because it is a time to celebrate where I come from, the people and experiences that have shaped me, and the contributions of the Hispanic community. To me, representation means knowing that there is a place for people like me at the table and that my voice, experiences, and perspective have value." - College of Engineering alum Jessica Falcon ’20.

To Jessica Falcon, Hispanic Heritage Month means sharing in pride and seeing representation. Her mother was also an engineer, inspiring Jessica to follow the same path, eventually earning her PhD in Bioengineering from the College of Engineering in 2020. Jessica takes pride in having a seat at the table and being that same representation to others pursuing engineering.

Temple's IEEE Power & Energy Society chapter recently welcomed industry members from Constellation for a panel discussion! Students got the chance to ask questions and learn more about the power and energy sector.

These electrical and computer engineering students walked away with some insight into their potential future in industry. Thank you to the representatives from Constellation for sharing your insights!

🧪 Mentorship through STEM 🔬

Last month, the College of Engineering and Heights Philadelphia completed their fifth consecutive summer research program, placing Philadelphia high school students in labs for hands-on research experience. Faculty and graduate and undergraduate students served as mentors, guiding Heights students through their projects.
