"Think big and do hard things." πŸ’«

This spring, Penn Vet New Bolton Center's Rose Nolen-Walston completed the Cocodona 250, a grueling ultramarathon across Arizona. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŒ΅β›°οΈ

For Dr. Nolen-Walston, associate professor of large animal internal medicine, this race was the latest challenge in a life defined by curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to take the unconventional path.

It's the same growth mentality she brings to her teaching, encouraging students to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn.

πŸ† Her path to the finish line is only part of the story. From a record-setting trek across Bhutan to an unconventional journey into veterinary medicine, Nolen-Walston has never been afraid to take the road less traveled.

It was a treat to have our Animal Welfare and Behavior Program students on campus this past weekend for a three-day graduation extravaganza! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ“

These online graduate programs provide working professionals in the animal health or policy fields with an evidence-based understanding of animal behavior and the tools to identify solutions that advance animal welfare practices.

Congratulations to this year’s class on completing the program! πŸ₯³

See you tomorrow!

Cindy Otto, professor of Working Dog Sciences & Sports Medicine and executive director of the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, has been talking to animals her whole life, but when she started listening, the magic really happened. ✨

In honor of her retirement at the end of this year after over 35 years of dedicated service to Penn Vet, Dr. Otto will be hosting a virtual lecture to share lessons drawn from her canine companions, heroic working dogs, one ridiculously smart cat, a wild black vulture, a tiny puffer fish, and other creatures that have crossed, brightened, and enlightened her path.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration Required.

A lamb walks into Ryan Hospital... no, really. πŸ‘ ❀️

Maeve isn't Ryan Hospital's usual patient. But after a rare vascular disorder left her battling painful infections and running out of treatment options, veterinarians from both of Penn Vet's animal hospitals came together to try something extraordinary.

πŸ’‘ Inspired by an idea from veterinary student Emily Jaramillo, V'26, Maeve became one of the first patients of her kind to receive radiation therapy for her condition.

Today? She's back where she belongsβ€”running, playing, and celebrating her first birthday at Lancaster Farm Sanctuary. πŸŽ‰
