Trust me, boys simply want to be with good men. Since Fridays are lighter days at Salt & Light Academy for Boys, I took four of our boys to Philly Pretzels!

I let them order the pretzels, pay with my card, and carry the box to the car. They enjoyed all of it. The excitement to simply be with one another was tangible. Next, we ordered water ice to take back to the rest of the boys at our center.

In the car I never felt pressured to ask them things; being together was enough and they couldn't stop talking! One young man said, "Mr. Barlow, I hear him (another one of the boys) saying you are his uncle. Can you be my uncle too?"

We’re excited to celebrate an incredible moment for our Salt & Light Academy for Boys community! Steve the Inventor was recently featured in The Philadelphia Tribune, and our Salt & Light boys had the opportunity to be part of the experience and photo shoot.

This is what our mission looks like in action—giving boys meaningful exposure, experiences, and opportunities that expand what they believe is possible. We want our young men to see themselves as creators, innovators, leaders, and difference-makers.
