Wishing the Penn South Asian and other communities celebrating Diwali a very prosperous year ahead! Diwali is a time friends and family come together and for those of us at Penn IEDP away from our families, we are glad to have found our friends here so it may feel like a little more like home. The IEDP students celebrated Diwali at a get-together organized by Rangoli - Indian Association at Penn, the South Asian Graduate Association at University of Pennsylvania.

💡🎓What is the IEDP UNESCO Fellowship?
The UNESCO Fellowship for Developing Country Scholars provides a full tuition scholarship to 1-2 applicants annually. It is open to exceptional prospective IEDP students who are citizens of low-income and lower-middle-income countries. Dr. Sharon Wolf, an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, met with IEDP students as part of our Faculty Coffee Meet Ups. The sun was shining and the air was a fresh crisp. Among the many things shared by Dr. Wolf, the students also learned about some of the most memorable stories from her development work experience!

IEDP’s faculty-student interactions in informal settings create avenues for both to know each other better, leading to some great conversations around development work and our own personal journeys.

IEDP’s Program Director, Dr. Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher met with IEDP students outside of the usual academic setting for some coffee, tea ☕️ (pun definitely intended), and conversation! There were three sessions held at 3 different parks across Philly and it was a great opportunity to explore the city! Also, we had two unexpected guests, the cutest toddler ever of an IEDP student and an IEDP alum from 2019 (shoutout to Liam)!
