This spring we’re beginning a super exciting and rare boatbuilding experience. We have 10 spaces available for kids ages 12-18 to work with us on the construction of a 16’ Maine coastal peapod, the type that lighthouse tenders would use to reach their craggy outposts. We’ll be using shop tools and equipment to shape designer’s half model, and then drafting the boat’s lines both to scale and on the shop floor. It’s a 7 week project with tons of flexibility built in to meet the busy schedules of our young apprentices. Applications are open now. Reminder to everyone that tomorrow is our inaugural open house from 10am-1:30pm. Part of our build out of the new shop included using this beautiful blue linseed oil paint from local vendor (I personally also use the linseed oil on my front porch, which you can see here). We’re really wild about linseed paint and if anybody has any questions about our experience, feel free to reach out. Natalie, earth and flax’s owner has also been really supportive every time we’ve had a linseed question. So…we hope to see you tomorrow at the boat shop! We’re hosting an open house. In fact, we’re going to host three: Saturday, March 15th, 10 AM-1:30 PM, Wednesday, March 19, from 5-7:30 PM, and Saturday, March 22, 1 PM to 3:30 PM. Come for a visit, learn a little bit about what we do, or pitch in and help us loft a small sailboat that we’re going to build. Enrollment is open for Swell’s surfboard making camp! Mondays-Fridays June 16-27 from our shop in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.
Students will craft their own surfboards from northern white cedar, using designs from York, Maine board builders and school .
Then in week, two, will head to the shore for some surfing and surf lessons with . This camp is available to students from ages 12 to 18. Reserve your spot by visiting swellresidency.com. See you in June!
