University of the Arts Hosts Second Annual Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day
Concerts, classes, dance party highlight April 11 event
featuring Cuban, African, Arab and other drumming styles
(PHILADELPHIA) On April 11, 2015, the University of the Arts will host the second edition of Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day.
Organized by Grammy Award-winning percussionist/composer, faculty member and alumnus Arturo Stable MM '10 (Jazz Studies), the event will be held in the University of the Arts’ Gershman Hall, 401 South Broad Street, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will feature master classes, concerts, panels and drum circles showcasing a wide range of drumming styles both local and international.
The event’s primary goal is to showcase Philadelphia rich drumming traditions and establish the city as a leading drumming force with much to offer to students and hand drum lovers.
Classes and concerts range in style from Cuban to African to Arab and more, and feature master drummers. The day’s events culminate with a Cuban Dance Party Concert at 7 p.m.
Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day is free to audiences of all ages and will be streamed live for music lovers from all around the world. The link to the stream can be accessed on the Festival’s web page,www.uarts.edu/handdrumday.
