UArts Hand Drum Department The University of the Arts Hand Drum Program - Arturo Stable, Department Chair

The University of the Arts Hand Drum Program offers one of the world’s most interactive and practical approaches to contemporary hand drum education. It focuses on developing performance skills and musicianship on various hand percussion instruments with an emphasis on the practical needs of the working percussionist. Students expand their skills primarily through the study of rhythms, styles and

techniques from different parts of the world including Africa, Latin and South America, the Middle East, and India. We will provide them with the necessary skills to perform at the highest level in any practical situation in the professional world. The Hand Percussion program at UARTS provides an intimate, supportive atmosphere that allows for close and constructive relationships among students, faculty members, and administrators. Students will feel a great level of independence and self-confidence as they will be encourage to navigate not only trough their college classes, but to interact with other artistic disciplines such as Dance, Theater and Fine Arts. Being located in the city of Philadelphia is hugely beneficial because there are events, concerts or conferences for the student to attend every week that directly pertain to their area of interest. The proximity with renown artistic venues such as the Kimmel Center, the Mann Center and numerous live music venues are the source of constant inspiration. UARTS will give you the experience and confidence you need to
meet the ever changing demands of life as a professional hand percussionist while you also develop your individual vision as a player. Contact the hand drum department head, Arturo Stable, at [email protected] for more information.
