The SAST Holden Furber Undergraduate Writing Prize is awarded annually for the best undergraduate essay on any topic related to South Asia. The award will be for $300 and competition is open to all students of the University of Pennsylvania. Papers should be submitted by April 23, 2021. See flyer for details!

What makes some kinds of objects, places, or symbols especially effective claims on history, heritage, and identity? Monuments were only one part of a larger set of features and practices associated with commemoration and memory in precolonial South Asia. Mark Lycett, Director of SAC, will be leading this Wednesday's lecture: Commemoration and Monument in Medieval India. This discussion sets the stage for a broader consideration of the practice and politics of heritage in medieval India.
