🎉 Celebrating the Week of the Young Child at Pratt Street Learning Center! 🎉

This week, our classrooms were filled with creativity, collaboration, laughter, and learning as we proudly celebrated the importance of early childhood education and our amazing children, families, and teachers! Here’s a look at how we honored each special day and how families can keep the celebration going through the weekend:

🎶 Music Monday – Children explored rhythm, movement, and self-expression through singing, dancing, and instruments.

🍎 Tasty Tuesday – We talked about healthy foods and enjoyed simple, child friendly snacks together while learning about nutrition.

🤝 Work Together Wednesday – Students practiced teamwork through building activities, sharing, and problem solving with friends.

🎨 Artsy Thursday – Creativity shined through painting, coloring, crafting, and imaginative expression.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family Friday – We celebrated the strong partnership between school and home. Thank you, families, for being such an important part of our learning community!

🌳 Supportive Saturday (Family Idea!) Families can continue the celebration by spending quality time together outdoors, visiting a local park, reading favorite books together, or letting children help with simple household activities to build confidence and responsibility.

📚 Storytime Sunday (Family Idea!) Enjoy a family reading day! Let your child choose their favorite story, visit a library, or create your own family storytelling time to support early literacy and imagination.

This builds early thinking and reasoning skills, which are the foundation for math and science concepts.

2. Early Math Skills

Sorting is an early math concept because children begin to understand:
• classification
• patterns
• grouping
• comparing quantities

These skills later connect to counting, graphing, and problem solving.

3. Executive Function Skills

Sorting helps children practice:
• attention
• organization
• problem solving
• memory

4. Language Development

While sorting, children often learn vocabulary like:
• big / small
• same / different
• color names
• shape names

Parents can extend this activity by asking questions like:
