Temple University Department of Psychiatry Education is our primary mission with the goal of training residents and medical students to excel clinically and academically.

The faculty of the department takes special pride in the accomplishments of our residents which include authoring articles in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research at national meetings, and being chosen for prestigious fello

wships such as the APA Minority Fellowship Award and the GAP Fellowship Award. In addition to the full time faculty members, the department has an excellent adjunct faculty that lecture and supervise residents. Many of the adjunct faculty members have expertise in clinical areas that enrich and offer depth to the academic program. Some of our residents are active in organizational psychiatry and residents serve and have served as resident representatives to the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society and the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society. Residents are encouraged and mentored by our outstanding faculty to become involved in their own education and the education of medical students. The faculty/resident bond serves as the foundation of our academic and clinical program. Our faculty is comprised of nationally and regionally recognized psychiatrists. Our department prides itself on academic and clinical excellence in serving the most socioeconomically deprived population in the Philadelphia region and we have been nationally recognized for the quality of our programs. In addition to being board certified in psychiatry, a number of faculty members have board certification in specialties such as internal medicine and pediatrics. Many faculty members have subspecialty board certification including child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatrics, forensic psychiatry, substance abuse, and psychosomatic medicine. Faculty members are committed to and enjoy a commitment to teaching. One of the hallmarks of our program is the accessibility of the faculty, most of whom spend their working day on the department's Episcopal campus. This is an exciting time for the department with ambitious plans for expanding the academic and clinical programs. Over the next several years, the goal is to develop more specialty clinical programs to further enhance the educational experience. The Department now has a Vice Chair for Research with the goal of developing more research opportunities for faculty and residents. The academic program is undergoing a major expansion with the addition of more and varied supervisors and electives. Both faculty members and residents are active and vital participants in the planning and implementation of the initiatives.
