Black Women's Educational Alliance (Phila. Chapter)

Black Women's Educational Alliance (BWEA) is a non-profit organization founded upon principles based on leadership, education, networking and support.

Black Women’s Educational Alliance referred to as BWEA, is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1976 in response to the expressed concern about equality of opportunities for black women in all divisions of education as well as the expressed need of sustained networking for both intellectual and professional development. Its founding members are Dr. Florence H. Scott, Dr. Sadie S. Mitchell, the late Dr. Gwendolyn Gates-Hewlett, and the late Mrs. Leontine Scott. Sensing the need to interact with women in the field of education in surrounding communities, the Philadelphia chapter assumed a major role in encouraging and facilitating expansion. Presently, there are three chapters in addition to the Philadelphia chapter: a Montgomery Chapter, a New Jersey Chapter and the National Board, the governing body of all chapters. BWEA is a young, yet thriving organization. As long as there are children in need of tender nurturing from dedicated professionals, BWEA will continue to grow.

BWEA at the Barnes Foundation Sunday, March 5th to served as judges in the "Art of Math” competition. We had a great time! BWEA sisters had an incredible experience being judges for so many students across Philly. Nasir, his team and school are the winners‼️

BWEA Philadelphia Chapter's Political Awareness & Education Committee is hosting a Breakfast Bingo event which includes speakers, games, food, prizes, and a lot of FUN and information.
